    Morning All

Well I have 6 weeks to decide whether to find out the sex of baby at my 20wk scan...
I am not sure I really want to, but I think dh really does want to!! I'm not sure what to do. I didn't find out with ds1 but did with with ds2 (via amnio) I am pretty sure I am having a girl this time, but I really have no preference which is why I am reluctant to find out, if that makes anysense!! It is not like I need to get used to the fact that it might be one or the other. Although I think dh has a little private yearning for a girl, which might be why he wants to find out, rather than being slightly disapointed on the day!!!

    What do I do??

  • I am also considering finding out the sex this time around. Very similar situation I too have two boys and think deep down my OH would like a girl. I honestly have no preference but OH says if we find out now we will know if we have to go out and buy little girls clothes. I however would like to wait and enjoy the surprise. I have longer to ponder the idea as i am only 8 weeks though.

    mmmm toughie mel...

DH was certain I'd wanna know - when we can ofcourse lol - but I'm not sure... On one hand I do... on the other... I don't. I'd love to know to prepare the nursery, but on the other I'd love it to be a suprise on the day... Friend of mine have already decided it's a boy - the scary thing is... she is 99% right when she normally predicts what her friends are having! EEEEEK!

I also want that special moment when someone or me tells DH that "congratulations... It's a boy/girl".... daft huh? :)

I think your OH will love it regardless and when it arrives he won't be in the least disappointed if it's a boy...
A very good friend of mine had 3 girls and for each one her hubby was convinced it was a boy! He melted soon as he saw each one of them born! With her 4th (and last!!) they were certain it would be a girl again... Lo and behold... They now have a bouncing baby boy (well he's 3 lol)

  • Redmel, we just needed to know with both! My Mum couldn't believe I didn't want a surprise on the day but we had already decided and were so excited at Poppy's 20w scan - only to be told they couldn't tell! So, kind MIL paid for us to have a 4D scan as she couldn't wait to know either! :D.

DH did slightly hint he wanted a girl and had a tear in his eye when it was confirmed. But saying that, he was exactly the same when he found out this one is a boy!

Its a tough decision as once you know, you know - and there is no turning back :).

To be totally honest, after an emergency forceps birth and in total sheer exhaustion, they could have said "Mrs SB, its a beautiful porcupine!" and I would have said "thanks"! :rotfl: . (PS: that feeling only lasted one incy tiny minute though! ;) ).

I now know going to have one of each so I can start getting rid of lots of pink clothes I've hoarded, sell the pink Bumbo on eBay  and get myself organised for the arrival of Team Blue :T.

I liked both knowing and not knowing, and once in labour you kind of forget what sex it is anyway...all you can really think of is ending the pain!!!!

I keep thinking of my friend who is 26 weeks and she found out she is having a girl at 20wks. They have the name picked out and all the clothes from her dd1 washed and at the ready, The cot covers are in pink and the room is geared slightly more towards a girl too... I just think there is nothing left to do. Also all the excitement for friends and family is gone really. once the baby is born it will be a case of oh she is here.
I loved going shopping with ds1 after he was born and showing him off to the world, whilst buying all the little boys clothes aaahhhhhh

my pregnant friend came round last night, and showed me this website, where the pics at the bottom from 12 week scans show the difference between male and female foetuses due to the angle which they lie at, compared to their backbones. It works for hers and my other friends , as they know they are having boys.
Just a bit of fun for you ladies who already have your 12 week scan piccies, i'll be scrutinising DDs after her scan next Friday. The ironic thing is I didn't want to know what I was having when i was pregnant;) :D

  • WE'd really love to know at the 20 wk scan. Most of our family lives overseas so it'll be more convenient to know in advance. I think it'll be just as exciting at the birth even if we already know the sex. Thanks for the link candgirl, I definately check it out once I get my 12 scan! (which I won't be getting until 14-15 wks....)

  • Those of you pondering whether to find out the sex at your scan, when we had Millie we found out but we didn't tell anyone at all, it was our little secret.

I figured that it was exciting for us anyway but when people have babies and you know what its going to be and in some cases the name, then when baby arrives the only thing to find out is the weight which isn't all that interesting, so I figured it was more exciting for everyone else if they didn't know.

I only slipped up and said her once in front of my best friend and I just said that maybe I'd done it on purpose to put her off!

Thats what we're planning on doing (20w scan on 22nd) so we can have our little secret - but i don't know how i'm going to not slip up!!

And OH's mum wants to know - i've told OH to tell her they couldn't see at scan but he thinks she won't be happy with that as she's desperate to go shopping - its her first grandchild!

There is no way i'll be telling my mum - she can't hold her own water, as they say! When i was expecting first child, my grandad didn't want to know what it was. It took mum about 5 seconds to slip up and call it He!!
