Congrats blooming freezing!:j
We had a girls name sorted a name that we loved... then we found out we're having a boy!! I found boys names much more difficult. I could give real off tens of girls names that I like.
I had always wanted to use my maiden name as my sons first name but unfortunately my husband told his brother and his "lovely" wife and they went and called their son that! Although apparantely, neither of them like the name  ?!! How mean is that!
Anyway, we have a new name that we both like, it just came to us after the scan. I thought my little boy looked like a naughty boy, he kept punshing me then laughing during the scan. The name we had thought of previously (Aron) didn't seem naughty enough for him any more. So we have decided to go for Samson and shorten it to Sam. His middle name will be my DH's grandad's name although we haven't told anyone in the family that.
I'm hoping to get the totbots nappies.0 -
For a boy, I like Aidan which means fire or flame (don't quite remember!) which i thought appropriate as my OH is a fireman. Unfortunately, my ex-boyfriend (the one I left for my OH!) is called Adrian, so that idea has gone straight out the window!0

Toto - we are specifically not having the names discussion with DSS (8) I really don't want to give him an option to disagree, it will be hard enough to find something that DH and I both like!
It is far too easy for kids to say 'don't like it'...or they only like names like Britney and Wayne (god I am so out of touch! that was supposed to be spears and rooney btw!).
We will go down the line of 'you're the only person we are going to tell, and you have to keep it a secret but we have chosen to call our daughter Jemima Bunnikins'. Hopefully the pleasure of a secret will please an 8 year old enough to take away the 'don't like it' option!!!
Very sensible, the problem I have is that my daughter is 12 and is the nosiest kid on the entire planet. She has to be involved in everything  She is so excited about the new baby that I don't mind her having a say, I just wish we could all agree. I could really do without MIL sticking her nose in but sometimes I do have to pick my battles with her. I really thought we had chosen a name the other day, but then she said to hubby 'we're not in the 1930s you know' which put him off it because even though there is nothing old about this name at all here, it seems it's not good in montreal!:A

I've got 2 definate boys names picked - one of them is OH's name, which i think is a nice name anyway, but Mum thinks its boring!! I'll decide when i see him which one he looks more like.
However, if he is a she, we can't come up with any names we both like. There was one, that I thought was really nice and other half agreed, and not in the top 10 most common names, but i've since heard of two babies named it!!
I'm still working on OH to agree to finding out the sex at 20 week scan - so we can worry about it after that.
Same happened when DD was born. I chose a name I thought was different, i'd not heard of any others named it. When she started school there was another two in her class and another 3 in the other reception class!! It appeared for the first time in the top ten when she was born in 2000, and rose up every year, its still there now.:beer:0 -
I onoly concieved once again after DD 21, then had a miscarriage.Got remarried and tried for years for a baby but couldn't conceive due to severe endometriosis, so we got dogs and I picked all my fave girls names Poppy, Daisy and Amber, and Milo for my boy dog:o
DD has picked about a zillion girls names,[STRIKE]we are still debating them[/STRIKE] but the boys name is Oscar David, that is sorted.
She did that silly sex predictor thing on the bounty site, or emmas diary and it said she is having a girl.what a joke it is:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

The thing is, we have known we are having a girl since I was 13 weeks because I had a CVS test, so we've had 12 weeks of just trying to pick a girl name... Only 15 weeks left and we've pretty much exhausted the entire book.:A

Ok, I am not pg yet (ttc), but we are having this 'name discussion' constantly!!! We really liked Sophie, until his friends decided to call their baby that if it was a girl. It was a boy and they called him David. We thought good, we still have a name. Then another friends got pg and they chose Sophie. And this time it is a girl!!!!! We didn't tell anyone what names we like and no-one knows we are ttc either. We have a name in mind, but I amnot telling it!!!! We are sure none of OH's friends will call their baby that!
For the boy I like Michael, Phil, Richard... Oh doesn't like.
We have also another issue - we are both from different countries and our common language is English. So, we need the names to sound good in all three languages!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
names are very difficult aren't they. Hubbie and I aren't exactly on the same page - for example he thinks that we should call it Felix if its a boy. But it sounds ridiculous next to our surname and I am very traditional and like things like matthew and oliver (out due to friends babies being called that!!!).
Girls names are definately easier for us, although in total our shortlist is only about 4 and not one really jumps out at us just yet. we aren't finding out the sex so will wait till the big daya nd probably debate it for a little while after that too (I didn't have a name until I was over 2 wks old!). I really hope it's a girl though *I'm sure if I'm meant to say that but certainly can't tell anyone other than hubbie so now you lot know too*
r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0
