Elle - fingers crossed for Tuesday
SB- well done on joining teams blue, (I wanted to be on that team last time but ended up on pink, this time I want pink so should imagine I'll end up blue)
Well i posted before about DH wanting to wait until after the scan at 13wks (currently 9wks) because we want to tell DD (4) before everyone else, but today may have let the cat out of the bag, one of DH's cousins works in Boots and served me today with 'mum to be vitamins' so we'll have to wait and see if he can keep quiet or if he text his mum the minute i left the shop!MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -
I've just had a call from the hospital - I've got to go in for my Anti D jab asap, ie this evening. It's done on the ward so can go 24hrs. Anyone know how it's given - in my arm or somewhere else?
Apparently you need it after 10wks but its our Trust's policy to give it to all neg blood groups. The lady I saw today said they would either call me today, but most prob give me it next week if all was well. Will ask more "why?" questions tonight!0 -

Hiya Elle
Don't worry too much about the anti D jab, I had some minor spotting last pregnancy and I went in and they do it on your bottom. Not sure if I had to have another during that pregnancy but I had to have one immediately after giving birth (I think) and then the following day.
Apologies for the couple of 'i thinks' but i'm pregnant again and currently suffering from jelly head!!:pFight for clean hospitals, C-DIFF takes lives

I've got the same blood group as you and had 2 jabs so far both in my arms. Then I need another when I have given birth (depending what blood group the baby is).
Nothing to worry about but if you are having it in your arm better to have it in the one you don't write with as its a bit sore the next day, because it has to be given directly into the muscle.0 -
Just got back. Yup, was in my arm too. I don't think I'm going to go into work tomorrow so an achey arm shouldn't be too much prob - just less posting on here!
Does anyone know - will a hot water bottle make it worse? I've been using one on and off but it's just dawned on me that when you use it for period pains, isn't it supposed to draw more blood to the area you place it on and therefore ease the cramps because the muscles don't have to work so hard?0 -
never heard of the anti d in the arm i was always told it had to be in the bum?? had it for all my pregnancies and was always in the bum??? prob them just being cruel cause i bruise badly with it and cant sit down lol!!!!What's for you won't go past you0
-
I asked - well actually, I said "oh, I thought it would be in my bum - I put nice pants on and everything!"
- and the nurse said it's not absorbed as quickly if you have it in your bum.

morning all,
hope you are taking a good rest today elle and looking after youself.
can i pick the brain of you all??? i am thinking nappies at the moment. would like to use cloth but am i setting myself up for failure or giving myself too much to do???
the reason i ask is this is my first and i dont want to put too many high expections on myself (which i do constantly) because i dont want to fail.
i am aware of the savings re real nappies to disposable etc, but i am looking for advice re the practicalities of getting used to having your first baby, running a house (with a husband who works nights) and planning so that things do not get on top of me.
what are peoples' thoughts????
thanks0 -

Hi Angelfairy
I'm in a similar quandry. It's been explained to me that the easiest way to cope with 'real' nappies is to have a soaking bucket which the nappy goes into immediately and soaks in before putting in the machine to wash (or going to the nappy service if you are using one). I was advised that to keep on top of them to do a load of nappies everyday. they are normal 30-40 degree washes as the liners keep most of the nasty bits away from the fabric and so it's just wee that's being washed off. Drying area is probably my biggest issue.
I have also been advised that when out and about or travelling its easiest to use a biodegradable dispoable nappy rather than try and cope with real nappies as they are heavy and bulky and smelly when wet!!!
oh and you should use a disposable nappy of your choice for the first week or so as at this time the real nappies can get very badly stained as it takes a wee while for baby's system to settle down.
some councils offer a nappy starter or trial pack - unfortunately mine doesn't.
I'd be grateful for anyone's thoughts.r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0
