Ive got my 12 week scan next Friday. The leaflet that came with the letter says that they wont tell you the sex so dont ask. I kinda wanted to know so im thinking about going for a private scan. Any idea how I go about it or how much im looking at?

    :)

Hi its a secret - as far as I am aware you need to be about 20 weeks before they can determine the sex. We have been looking at private scans too and we have found some places will do a scan do sex the baby for about £95. This does sound alot but you seem to get quite alot of scanning time. The 3D/4D packages can start anywhere from about £125 to over £200.

I am only 8 weeks but I would just like the reassurance of knowing for sure that everything is okay so the early scan we are looking to get is £75. I have got my date for my first scan but it is right at the end of May and I will be nearly 14 weeks by then! Don't think I could last that long!:o

hi all, feeling all jealous of all the scan talk, in a nice way, had my last scan last week, now got to wait for the real thing to come. getting fed up with comments from friends saying that they are glad it not them having a baby at my age and with the big age gap. trying to keep postive.

HONEYBE21 moan at my OH after seeing your bump, you are four weeks ahead of me and twice the size and i was overweight when i started.

Hi Itsa. I'm sure its the 20w scan for sexing as its too early at 12w. Luckily my PCT do offer sexing but they couldn't be sure either way with Poppy!. We were absolutely desperate to find out what we were having so opted for a 4D scan and it was the most wonderful experience ever and we would definately do it again even if they could sex this baby :). I'm sure prices differ depending on where you live but to give you an idea, these are the packages available where we went:

HTH and good luck next week!

PS: glad your scans went well, Daisy & Carol!

God, I'm only 14 weeks pregnant, but I already feel like a failure of a mother.

I'm finding it hard with all the stuff that you're not supposed to do, and just wondered if everyone else abstains from things totally or if you have a little bit of the things you're not supposed to.

    For example,

I have one cup of coffee a day and maybe a cup of tea after work (is that bad? Sometimes I have two coffees at the weekend).

I had 1 small glass of wine last Saturday and 1/2 Guinness last night and a few sips from bf's various glasses as he was at an ale tasting night. Is this terrible? Should I stop? What do other people do?

I had 2 Iubroprofen for a terrible headache on Monday.

I eat coleslaw and mayo (I know shop bought is okay, but there's no way of telling from a sandwich shop is there?).

I eat fried eggs (but I make sure the yolk is hard, that's okay, isn't it?).

I sound and feel like a terrible mother!

Hi ya, personally i keep off any booze (luckily didnt drink much anyway) but some women risk drinking a little and all is fine.

I wouldnt worry about one cup of coffee! :p I went off tea and coffee very early on, but have just started feeling ok about a bit of de caff tea. Still dont like the smell of coffee though yuk! Funny how everyone goes off different things!

Id keep away from ibruprofen though-only take paracetamol in small doses if really needed.

As for food-as long as the yellow in egg is hard/cooked through thats fine (i only like runny yellow in fried eggs though-so am keeping away! lol).

I woudnt worry too much, but try not to drink much and ask your gp to check what tablets/painkillers are ok to use in future to be safe then sorry :o

Thanks Keely. Think I just need to take a stopcheck and reassess what I can and can't do! I don't mind staying off the drink, but I was told one glass of wine was okay and Guinness is good for iron.

I checked the packet on the Iubroprofen and it said "Do not take if in the last three months of pregnancy" and "Talk to your doctor if in the first six months of pregnancy." But what is he possibly going to say? So far, I'm having a normal pregnancy, so ringing him up would seem like a waste of time. At the time, I was desperate and it was all we had in the house, but I still feel bad about it.

Aarggh, there are so many things to remember, just hoping I haven't done any damage to anything.

Did you get my post about how I use you as my ball post and sorry for missing your movements post?

  • Pollyanna - stop beating yourself up!
I'm just back from the hospital which is like a bar the amount of women (heavily pregnant) standing outside smoking is unbelievable. I was speaking to a nurse who told me some even disappear off and leave their babies alone to have a smoke. Seems it's a major source of complications.
I agree with keely - keep off the ibuprofen & stick to paracetamol. Coleslaw you'd be best to make your own as it can contain listeria (as can all prepacked salads) but shop bought mayo is fine. Homemade coleslaw tastes nicer anyway - just use shop bought mayo.
I wouldn't beat yourself up over a couple of small drinks either - it's not like you're downing a bottle of vodka every day, is it? Or smoking crack? I'm sure everyone has done something they have been advised against - I went to a festival before I knew I was pregnant so I'm not going to beat myself up over all the beer. And if by slim chance it does mean my baby has FAS I won't love them any less, will I?
