Hi all

Have just found out that i'm preggers for 3rd time (though got to wait for confirmation from GP), this was not a planned pregnancy so was in shock for most of the weekend! Think i've got my head around it now and OH can't stop smiling! Will be joining in the discussions and will have questions when i have my EDD about various money-saving tips.

Hiya All, Congrats to all the new babies to the world & congrats to all the new preggers peeps.

I have a question that is niggling the hell out of me & I really don't know what to do...

I'm originally from Stoke on Trent but moved to just outside Edinburgh 5 years ago.. All of my family live in Stoke & my OH's family live in Birkenhead.

At my booking in appointment with the midwife she asked me where I wanted to have the baby.. I didn't realise I had a choice.. So I can either have it at my local hospital, the main one in Edinburgh or At the North Staffs Hospital in Stoke (where I was born)

I really feel passionate about my mum & my OH being with me at the birth but don't know what to do?

It would be a good idea to have it at my local hosp but there is a posability that my mum wont be there as we're 4 hours apart or do I go to Stoke before my due date & not have the comfort of being at my own home? My mum will have everything I need there anyway as she is doing her own little nursery for when we visit. The pram & cot is all there too..

As this is my first one I dont know whether family support outweighs home comforts?

What would everyone else do?

Hello all, not been around for a while, but congrats to all who have had their babies and welcome to all newbies.

Had a successful early scan at 7 weeks and my date was bang on - 18th Nov it is! Despite feeling that I was about to burst, the sonographer said my bladder was "full, but not quite full enough" to see everything. I swear I couldn't have fitted another drop of water in there! Anyway, I'm booked in for another scan on Monday (when I'll be 11 weeks).

BargainAholic - only you can decide what's best for you, but the problem with labour is that you don't know when it's going to happen! You could potentially be at your mum's for weeks before anything happened, so it really depends on where you would be most comfortable.

I had DD at the ERI in Edinburgh, and couldn't fault it, although it is a big hospital and not as personal as some smaller units.

I'm assuming St Johns would be your local hospital? I must say I've only heard good things about it.

BargainAholic - you need to do whichever option gives you the most comfort emotionally. The thing to remember is that the baby could come early or late, giving you a long time at your mum's, just waiting for something to happen - could your other half viably stay with you that long too? Have you checked with the hospital that you can have two birthing partners? (I know at our hospital they'll only allow one).

BARGAINHOLIC-im from stoke on trent and will be having baby at north staffs and tbh when i was at ward 55 early pregnancy on monday it was a complete joke beds didnt have matress had to sit on a chair to have my anti d which we had to wait 4 hours for,when we were in the labour ward at 3am on the monday the doctor i saw was rude and forgot to order the extra anti d hence the 4 hour wait when we were told to go back at 12pm that day.
its nowhere near as i nice as when i had my other 2 not to put you off im just finding this time round(3rd) a complete let down plus they have asecurity system now that means the ward is shut from a certain time and u have to wait outside and press a button to be let in there was a lady in labour waiting outside with us to be let in at 3am and then they told her to find labour ward and walk down to it we had to show her where it was.
also u as some1 else said labour is so unpredictable and im sure ud have to ring north staffs to make sure it was ok to have the baby there.
i have had 2 birth partners before but they wudnt allow a second person for the person we had to show the way to on monday so its seems to be upto the staff on duty at the time these days.

hi ya, no body seemed to notice my little post about feeling first movements. Well it was a big thing for me, being my 1st pregnancy and im very excited about it. Im still counting down 2 weeks untill my next scan!

Rock on Keely! Very chuffed for you! First I had bump envy (*joins SB in the bump envy corner*) now I have movement envy too! I doubt you're going mad, it really is most likely to be P shuffling around, rearrnaging the furniture that kind of thing! ;-)

Honey, fab bump! I still have chuff all bump! *goes back to the bump envy corner*

Me: Heard the heartbeat for the first time today! It was crazy, all whooshy and rythmic! Poor little mite wasn't overly keen on being prodded by a probe and as soon as the nice lady doctor found the heartbeat he (or indeed she) ran away and she had to chase him around my uterus! She got there in the end though (I think she wedged him in a corner) and it was fab, a fast one apparantly! I was very impressed!

Just wanted to say, Hi! And sorry for not mentioning movements. I find quite a few things get ignored, but they all get read, so don't worry too much about it.

Just to make you feel better, I've been reading your posts for a while as you are a month further along than me and I kinda use you as a ball post (if that makes sense)! At first I thought you were only two weeks further than me, but then realised I'd got my dates wrong. Well, not wrong, really, I managed to conceive on day 29 of my cycle which is a bit strange! And so I just didn't have the right info.
