    Hello everyone.

Having moved 3 weeks ago BT have finally given us phone and allowed us to connect to the internet as of an hour ago.:j

Have missed this page so much and am looking forward to trawling through the last 4 weeks pages to see what has been happening with all of you.

Update on me. Baby is still small and when I saw a stand in midwife after our last growth scan she said scans are no more accurate than her hands!! Well have seen my normal midwife last week and this and she thinks I am shrinking. Measured 30 weeks yesterday instead of 36+2. I'm sure she put the tape in a different place though. SO we are going for another scan on monday.
Have also done NHS antenatal classes since I was last online. We were meant to be doing them in february and I hadn't had any details arrive so I rang the midwife who does then who said "Oh I was going to ring you later. There aren't enough people for the february course so it has been cancelled. Would you like to come to the January ones instead? You've only missed one class!!!" We weren't impressed with that, but the classes we went to were very helpful and they also did a tour of the hospital on a saturday afternoon and a breastfeeding workshop both of which were good.

Think I am just about ready for the baby to come. Only 12 more boxes to unpack and no energy left to do so!

    Hope you are all ok.
    Baby Boy due 4/3/08

We've completed on flat purchase :D

Hello everyone. Baby is due in less than 3 months. I have decided to buy a baby sling instead of a pram. I have been checking in mothercare and similar shops in London, however I haven't found anything under £30-£40. I am not crazy about "fancy" designed slings, just looking for the basic one, that is = long piece of cloth that gets tied with a simple knot (although I haven't been able to find this basic type).

Does anyone know where to find these type of slings, or where I can get slings at a reasonable (cheaper) price. I have been thinking of buying the cloth and do it myself (if I don't find where to buy). Anyone knows of any website with instructions, materials, measures, etc. to do it yourself?
Any info/ advice will be really appreciated. Thanks.
  • Sorry Magan can't help you with the sling thing but just come on here for a bit of moan.

Eldest child 11 is playing up at the mo, i suppose it is the usual answering back, ignoring questions I ask but as i am so tired at the moment it is really getting me down. Feel really manky today and a bit sorry for myself (someones got to). Really starting to ache and feel heavy and baby has got a foot or something under my ribs. Not seeing the midwife until 39 weeks as being seen fortnightly. Not really relishing the thought of school hols next week.

Any advice on baby monitors, looking at what would be best buy.

Doobees - no internet for 4 weeks, what a nightmare. Hope you get chance to catch up AND unpack all those boxes. Could be a good excuse for a good clear out if you haven't already and at least you are moved before baby arrives.
    now mum of 4!!!

Can't help you with making your own but I can recommend this website to buy a sling from, they're not cheap but they are really good and she does have some bargains on there atm. There's also lots of advice on babywearing on there too :-) I hope that helps :-)

  • Magan,

we got a sling from TK Maxx a couple of weeks ago for £20, down from £40. They also had lots of expensive goodies for bargain prices - baby sleeping bags down from £90 to £20 (too expensie for me but I'm staggered someone would pay full whack for that!)
  • 3kids -
I totally sympathise about feet under the ribs! Mine keeps doing it when I'm driving which is a nightmare, and we've found out that livers make mummy yell when you stamp on them...
I won a BT 150 baby monitor which is pretty funky. The sound is clear, has a torch and recharges the batteries(I think), what I thought was realy smart was you can plug an MP3 player in or record your own message for baby. I don't think it's the cheapest but it's not over the top either. I reckon the movement pad things some have would make me really paranoid, although given our cat's behavoiur at the mo a video monitor may have been the way to go. Still, can't look a gift horse in the mouth.

    Megan,

I got a wilkinet sling (meant to be very good for your posture and the spinal/pelvic development of baby) for £8 at a nearly new sale. There should be a round of NCT nearly new sales coming up or you could have a look on ebay.

These slings are meant to last years and few a few children as they are all cloth with no buckles or clips so a second hand one should be fine.

Gosh you weren't wrong when you said we had a lot in common, lol! My soon to be 15 year old started this carry on, a few months ago! Sometimes I almost ended up in tears.I blamed myself at first, as he was really upset about me having the baby.To cut a long story short, after 3 years apart, me and my ex-there dad, decided to to try again and when I found out I was pregnant, ex went beserk 'cos I wouldn't terminate and everything fell apart.Difference this time, is there was no moving out as we still kept our own places.

DS was angry that a baby was coming along at my age-34 as well as the fact of the situation I spose. On top of starting a new job, I didn't need attitude as well. And anything starts it too! He accussed me of not caring about his school work a few weeks ago 'cos I wouldn't stop off and get him paper for the printer after work, when he gets home around 3pm and does sweet ** but i don't get back till gone 5 on a packed bus in central London.
I feel bad, cos my 11 year old daughter keeps me sane and I worry that I show her more affection and when I asked him If he feels this is the case, he said no,I just moan at him too much:mad:

When I asked their father to talk to him, he said 'your the parent-you should be able to control him,but had a word anyway.DS calmed down a bit,but still has a bit to say for himself! Last sunday I thought I'd cheer myself up by buying one of those grabbit bags from lush for a tenner as mentioned on the grabbit board.Well it turned up yesterday and the smell of the stuff nearly had me throwing up:rotfl: ,so I can't even get a treat right, let alone parenting and I'm 29 weeks up the duff ,lol.

Sorry to rant on, but I do know where your coming from.Your not alone. We signed up for this thing called motherhood/parenthood-so all we can really do now is smile in the face of adversity-they will grow out of it.And hopefully, just hopefully,we'll still have our sanity in tact:rotfl:

Oh and I've got the feet stuck under the ribs thing too, as well as what feels like a trapped nerve down the lower side of my back leg on the left side.
:A Your Always in my heart, you never ever will be forgotten-9/9/14:heart2:

    Hi Magan
another website which may be useful is http://www.slingmeet.co.uk/, though i haven't plucked up the nerve to register on their forum yet as i don't know how i'll get on with a sling to start with! There is a lot of good advice on the Continuum Concept yahoo group. I just plumped for the Close baby carrier as it was on offer at the Baby Show a few months ago in Earl's Court...and they showed me how to put it on, tighten etc and put a baby (doll!) in.
