Shelvis, just reading the beginning of your post where you said "just been to the gym" I was thinking Blimey, she's keen!! Then I read it properly! Will they not admit you soon if your waters have broken?
Yeah they won't let you go more than 48 hours before they induce. My waters broke 7am thursday morning but it was 8 by the time I had done getting dressed (straightened my hair and put make up on for some mad reason!) so I am booked in to be induced tomorrow morning at 8am.
Carol9uk - I took all my hols just before my maternity leave started because I wanted to stretch out my time off but some places will let you carry over leave and some will pay you for them if you don't take then. Perhaps check with yout HR department? They have to be discrete if you don't want everyone to know yet.0 -

Because you want to look gorgeous in your first mother and baby pics? Hope you have a lovely labour and look just the same straight afterwards. I will go to hospital looking like a hag and just blame how horrendous I look on labour!0 -
I also have a question, although I am not sure if this is the place to ask! My partner and I are both on low incomes and receive Council Tax and Housing Benefits (we both work part-time and study full-time with the Open University for our first degrees) We are eligible for free prescriptions, dental treatment and eye tests as we are both named on a HC2 certificate.
I am 20 years old and almost 10 weeks pregnant. As you can imagine I am concerned about financial support. We have worked it out so we can carry on working and according to the tax credit calculator online we are eligible for over £1000 in Child Tax Credit and £0 in Working Tax Credit (less than 16 hours working per week). I believe that this amount is higher than the standard family element?
According to the government website if we receive a CTC higher than the family element we can get the £500 Maternity Grant. However, we cannot apply for CTC until after the birth and MG must be applied for within 3 months of the birth - my question is how will we ensure we get both, as the likelihood of receiving a CTC response within those 3 months AND getting the MG application in are minimal. How can I ensure we get each?0 -

The most surreal part of my labour was the midwife asking which mascara I use whilst getting my epidural as she said I had fabulous eyelashes! :rotfl:

Not sure about the ins and outs of this but the MG form has an 'are you waiting to hear' box to tick as well as 'in receipt of' box when applying so have a MG form all filled in and ready. Also, when you get your Bounty bag at the hospital, inside is the Child Benefit form (curently £18.10 per week - due to go up to £18.80 in April 2008) and also enclosed is a leaflet re Tax Credits. When you (or OH) feel up to it after the birth, call the number and they send you out the form. Return it as soon as you can and then you can tick the 'applied for' box on the MG form and send that in pronto . Just make sure it is sent in with 3 months. Best to apply and see what happens. They can only say no!
Hope I'm making sense! Only know about it as my neighbour asked for my help in completing hers.
