  • Alias_Omega Congrats he is soooooo lovely. What a great labour. Can we all have one like that please ;)

    Sadie204 congrats 2 u 2.

MrsW82 they said at my antenatal this week that the plug can come away anything up 2 weeks before labour actually starts but I really hope for your sake this is not the case.

Ok I have a question do any of you have an itch problem, I've read that it is due to the fact there is a bigger blood supply in your body?? My problem is its driving me insane (all over my body) I'm red raw with scratching!! Is there a cure or has anyone found something that calms it down, except standing constantly in a cold shower!!! Thanx in advance for any advice/cures/remedies etc

    Morning all,

Scruffy96uk - Thanks, I'm hoping that too! Had some mild contractions last night - but that was it...for now anyway!

Extreme itchy-ness can also be linked to something a bit nasty * - please mention it to your MW (just in case), have you tried some unscented moisturising lotion? I think the stretching of skin, as you expand, also creates itchyness.

Also a warm bath, with powdered milk in is suposed to soothe itchy-ness...good for the skin too.

    * Found it, it's called obstetric cholestasis...Don't know what that is though!
    - Please don't worry lots now! Just give your MW a ring!

    Happy Due Date to me!

And congratulations to everyone that has had their babies, I'm getting perilously close to being left at the top of the list on my own!

And no signs of anything happening here, which is extremely depressing. I just want this baby to be born now, I'm fed up of not sleeping, heartburn, backache etc. Just want to swap it all for 2 hourly night feeds, screaming baby.... on second thoughts....

Right, I've tried rapsberry leaf tea, pineapple, hot curry. What else is there to try and get this baby going? Mum recommended acupuncture (a friend of hers is trained, but sadly lives too far away - 250 miles - to help), I've been walking lots, or as much as is possible. OH and I are going to try s*x at some point, but because of SPD it's kind of difficult to find positions that work :-) Although I'm prepared to put up with some discomfort at this point!

I desparately don't want to be induced, as I am booked to have baby at the midwife unit in Chipping Norton rather than in Oxford, but if I have to be induced they will make me got to Oxford. Oh, and a friend of mine who is a obstetrician has offered to do a sweep for me (earlier than MW - not sure if this is such a good idea)..

    Help?

    Morning ab7167! Happy Due Date!

I'm due on Saturday...and plan to be sorting out our Christmas decorations to give me somthing to do! (other than loitering on the MSE forum, which Hubby has decided I'm addicted to!) :D

I've read that massage and nipple stimulation is supposed to help.....perhaps that can go before the s*x.....sounds like a good enough reason to me!:rotfl:

A friend of mine swore by a brisk walk with the dog...not so good for you with SPD though, I'm afraid!

SPD fortunatley has subsided a lot since baby's head dropped. And I also think that I didn't have it that badly either, at least compared to some other peoples comments....

MW said this it common for the pain to get less, as the baby's head is on the muscle now, rather than the bone. I can walk (slowly) a good long way now. Its the knees wider than pelvis bit that is still a bit painful :-)

Yes, my OH seems to think that I am a little addicted to MSE as well - although he shouldn't grumble, seeing as how little I managed to spend on getting ready for this baby. Garunteed we have forgotton something, though. This is first baby so not really totally clued up...

Have fun with Christmas decorations - we are going away this year (with a month old baby!) so not really bothering. Only going to M-I-L - which will be wonderful, as she will do everything, iincluding changing baby and bathing, dressing - we have a full on uber grandmother in waiting! She won't be able to feed, as I am planning on breastfeeding, but everything else will be done for me. Which sounds quite nice...

    Sounds wonderful!

(Think if we went to M-I-L's for Christmas, I'd spend New Year locked up for Matri-cide!!! :rotfl: Although the same would be said if my mother was involved!)

As for being clued-up, we're in the same boat! But just think - your baby has even less idea than we have, as to what we should be doing - and Babies certainly won't be taking notes! :D

Nature's got a lot to do with pregnancy, I don't think early parenthood is any different!;)

OH, I am fully aware of the sterling qualities of my MIL. So far in this pregnancy, she has spent around £700 on clothes, moses basket, travel system, random bits and pieces. Has fully kitted out her house so when we visit all I will need is the baby (hopefully I won't forget that one!) and clothes. Up to and including sudocreme, bottles, stereliser, cot, nappies and nightlight. She also came over one day and painted the nursery for me as I couldn't manage it with the SPD. Turning a bright red room into a cream one, which took 4 coats. She happily came back the next day to finish off the woodwork for me. Words really fail me, she is superb. I think we had this baby just in time, she retired at the end of summer term 2005 and has been looking for things to fill her time since then. She lives about 40 minutes drive from us, which is perfect, as I suspect she would be round here every day if it was practical. My FIL just pays the Visa bills....

I'm off to meet my antenatal class for coffee at 11, think I will do a few laps of the town first, see if I can provoke a reaction. OH has forgotton his lunch as well, so will wander over and drop that off.

Wish me luck! MrsW82, I hope yours comes on time. And as for the clued up thing, my antenatal teacher said all you really need is clothes, food, nappies and a car seat. The rest of it will work itself out over the first few weeks. Although I don't fancy shopping for baby essentials while the rest of the known universe is trying to do their christmas shopping (including me, incidently, not done anything yet...)

  • Ali your MIL sounds like a dream! They're not even that good in the movies  very, very jealous here...

I hope things get moving for you soon - do try nipple stimulation if you want to give nature a helping hand, I swear it's what triggered labour for me, 12 days overdue. We did about 15 minutes worth every hour, for about 6-8 hours and contractions started that night. Sex also helps ripen your cervix if it is not ready. Can you manage a handstand afterwards? ;)

Oh and just by-the-by - my SPD went immediately after delivering. Although my legs were still shaking like a leaf, two hours later after I'd showered I was able to put my knickers on while standing up! :D I hope you have the same good fortune.
  • Scruffy, ask your midwife about the itching as it may be, as mentioned by mrsw82, obstetric cholestasis, although it is a tiny tiny tiny chance.

I have been itching for almost 4 weeks now but i read that it started on your hands and feet and as such never mentioned it to the midwife but she asked me about it, saying it can be anywhere, its something to do with your liver and they give you blood tests every two weeks to check for it. I have just had my second test and get the results next Monday.

Please dont panic but have a look at www.itchymoms.com for more info. There is a forum you can join but some of the storys are quite scary so just remember that the chances of having it are really really tiny.

I have found that E45 cream (not lotion) is much better at soothing than all kinds of calomine lotion, also having cool showers and using E45 emoliant shower cream has helped. I was prescribed something for the itching by the consultant but it makes the baby quite drowsy and the midwife advised only take small amounts when its at its worse but im managing without it so far.

PS. All E45 products in Boots where on offer last week.
 I love my gorgeous little girl
