Another update from me. I feel bad I never get on this list to support others but I just can't find the time nor energy mostly. However, some of you may remember my concerns about the risk factors and my age and I am delighted to announce that my AFP results came through as LOW!! So chuffed. Still haven't told anyone in my family and have decided to hang on another 2 weeks until the foetal anomaly scan is done to confirm all is ok.

Does anyone know what the LOW means in statistics? What figure would it be ie 1 in ????? Sorry if this sounds stupid but I'm just curious.
  • Well i think 1 in 250 is high enought to warrent them suggesting an amnio and thats basically 0.4% if you look at it like that so puts it all into perspective!
  • machairs - Is the AFP for downs. If so anything over 1 in 250 is considered a low risk. For example 1 in 251 +. The 'normal' amount is different depending on age for example age 30 I think it is 1 in 910 - but you can find these out from the internet.
    now mum of 4!!!
  • Hi all,

Hope everyone is ok... all quiet on the birth front?

have put up a little picture of Ellie as my avatar, she was a few hours old at that point. Oh and the hat she's got on makes her look a little like a gnome! :rotfl: :smileyhea

All is going well and we are smitten with her. Still haven't joined the parenting club.. I must just jump in and do that at some point! :o

Big hugs to the peeps that have sinusitis, I had it during my pregnancy and it is really is agony. The only advice I can give is lots of rest where possible and the steam thing with Vicks sounds good.
    :j Ellie (Eleanor) Sophie arrived 10 days late on 19th November at 8.21am. 9lbs 1 oz :j

    Morning all,

And so starts another week of heartburn, and Hubby pointed out I have stretchmarks - (unthoughtful Git! - they're just above my belly button, where I can't see em, and DIDn't know they were there! GRRR! )

    Altough at 39 weeks, and 2 days, I don't supose it's too bad.....:rotfl:

Mrs AliasOmega - Don't leave me in suspense - has anything happened yet?!

    Big Hugs to all!

Oh no! I've rubbed it on my chest 3x and did one inhalation. None of which did any good so fingers crossed it hasn't affected baba. It was the Tesco cheap version and no where near as eye watering. Will stick to the plain steam in future.

Thanks. It is agony. I never slept at all last night and paracetomal does nothing. I'm off work to day and just told them I think I will be tomorow too. I only work Mon-Wed so it's negligable whether I will be in this week at all. Was running a temperature last night with it but hot lemon drink and paracetomal took it down. I've suffered from sinusitus before but never this bad or perhaps it feels so bad this time cos I can't take sinutab.

Downs and Spina Bifida. I will trawl the net. Quite worrying to think I might be 1 in 251 though. Seeing consultant at foetal anomaly scan in 2 weeks so wil ask for exact figures then.
