I am NOT a hypochondriac. I promise. I never get ill.
But I have woken up with pain in the lower right hand side of my bump - pain when I move, breathe, or don't move and don't breathe. I hate self diagnosis but Google says this is 'the' sign of appendicitis. I expected it to be somethign to do with the head engaging or the baby turning. Ignore it or bother the docs? I hate going to the doctors. Apart from the antenatals obviously. Not a fear or anything. Just feel like I use up more valuable time!

How about ringing NHS Direct? May put your mind at rest icon7.gif

Fingers crossed for you SeptemberBaby s69.gif

  • Thanks Sheel, I just phoned them and am still feeling a bit unsure. The nurse I spoke to seemed to think it is contractions but I am not convinced. VERY pleased she didn't mention appendicitis as anything has to be better - but skeptical of this being early labour, no other symptoms at all. She told me to phone the midwife - going to wait a few hours before I do anything that drastic.

Sheel - best wishes for your daughters scan today :j

Good luck SB, hope all goes well for you today!

Got to go to hospital today as mw thinks baby is too big. Anyone know what happens, just a scan and speak to doctor?
Really nervous, got it into my head last night that they will find something wrong! :o Trying to believe my OH when he says it going to be ok, glad he is coming with me!

    Fac! Noooo!
With appendicitis you will not be able to lift your right knee up to your belly.

I went to the docs with my cough. The appointment lasted 20 secs, got told it's viral, and I was on my way. Sure, I felt I was wasting their time, BUT I did feel fabulously better for the rest of the day. There is no faster way to get rid of your pain, if it is indeed nothing.
Can you call the midwife and ask about the possibility of contractions - personally I would have no clue how to contact a midwife, thinking about it I have no idea when to call when I do go into labour, but you may have more luck.

I'd be worried that everyone will assume it's labour, because statistically that is what you could be experiencing. But if it is anything else, stupidly coincidentally, then I would not care about bothering anyone with it.

    Has the pain gone yet?

PS Funnily enough I had a cramp style pain in my left side this morning. Ow. Only two attacks though...

Sadie, good luck with your appointment. But surely big baby is better than too small right? It could be like too much amniotic fluid, or anything. And you get to see baby in a scan again. All the best.

  • Agutka when do you think the last time I could get EITHER knee near my belly? :rotfl: But seriously that is reassuring as I did just about manage to trim my toe nails last night. Had to get OH to paint them though and very impressed with the job he did too!

The pain has not gone but is changing a bit - actually it feels almost like a stitch. Going to self medicate with tea and toast for now.

I hadn't quite realised how close your due date was - do you think having house stuff going on helps with the waiting? You should have been given a list of numbers to call or something should be on your notes maybe? Maybe it's because I'm having a home birth (if the house is ever ready/birth pool ever arrives) but at my last appointment the midwife wrote the number to get her on on almost every piece of paper in my notes folder, I don't think she has much faith in me.

And yes, every twinge could be the start of things according to my mother - with my brother (first) she had an easy sounding four hour labour from start to finish, two weeks early. If only that was the sort of thing we could inherit. Mind you she had a nightmare with me, so maybe not!

good luck Sadie - let us know what happens. My mw has never worried about my size BUT it has been all over the place on my notes, sometimes skipping a week or two and then retreating at the next appointment. I had a 4D scan at 26 weeks and they said I had a LOT of fluid which might have made me slightly bigger - but this did make for clear pictures at least.

At least they are looking after you and checking you out sooner rather than later :grouphug:

Thanks Agutka and Fac73! It will be nice to see baby again, only a few weeks left now til I get to hold him/her for real! Last few months gone so fast! I suppose I should be glad that they are concerned and are going to see me so soon, at least they are not just going to leave me to panic about things for weeks!

Will let you know how it goes. x

Ah right now I know who to blame.....for me getting soaking wet on the way to my midwife appt (last one before the BIG DAY) and for my bestest mate who had a baby girl at 6.56am this morning!

No news from SB then, fingers crossed.... c'mon you can do it!
