I've just been to see a Lollipop nappy advisor and am buying some nappies to try out. She is selling a bucket (a big, solid one) which comes with a mesh bag, 100 disposable liners, a couple of washable wipes and a box of nappy wash powder - its £18.

There is also one for £38 which also has 20 washable wipes with a plastic storage bag, but I can get cheaper wipes elsewhere.

Do you think it sounds like a good buy, or is it a bit steep? I feel all confused after looking at all those nappies!! It all seems like a lot of money but then I suppose babies aren't cheap!

well I've used cloth on all three of mine, and I used to be a lollipop adiviser! but...

I've never used nappy mesh bags - can see the point if you soak them, but I don't (when I emptied the bucket it would always go all over the floor and it made the smell MUCH worse)

I've used 3 of the roll of 100 disposbale liners I bought bedfore dd3 was born, she's now 2y4mo and in cloth virtually full time! fleece liners are much better :)

Washable wipes are a good thing :) but 2 won't get you very far!

I use normal washing detergent, not special nappy stuff

and will the bucket actually fit in your bathroom? you might find it better to have two smaller ones rather than one huge one. As long as it's got a proper lid, it'll be fine. Try poundshops :)

these kits sound expensive to me gemma - nappy pails are about a fiver, mesh bags 99p on kiddicare or £2.50 on ebay. Wipes £2.50 for 12 on ebay for the terry ones fleece are about £4.50 for 20 etc etc...

there's a similar kit that I saw earlier on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-NAPPY-ACCESSORY-KIT-Bucket-Nets-Liners-Wipes-Bowl_W0QQitemZ290125227977QQihZ019QQcategoryZ26269QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem but I didn't buy it as I think I can get it cheaper by buying the bits individually (and postage is a lot cos of the pail) and I don't really need a top and tail bowl

in the end it comes down to convenience and in some ways I'd rather buy from a Lollipop advisor than off ebay but it depends if you can be bothered to shop around

my friend loves the mesh bags as you don't have to stick your hand in the bucket just put the whole mesh bag in the washing machine

The wipes would work out a lot cheaper to make yourself - fleece fabric is very cheap to buy and you could back with old towels, flannels or buy new toweling for the job - even basic cheapie towels from Asda wash up well.

I hadn't even realised they do washable wipes - shows how long it is since I've had to deal with any of this.

Hi, does anyone have any advice on coping with ridiculously swollen legs/ankles/feet? unfortunately mine have been swelling up since April, when i was 5 months!! I sit with my feet up all day at work, and have been trying to drink more fluid. It is worse in the warmer weather, but its getting to the point where it doesn't seem to make a difference whether its hot or cold. Told the midwife last time i was there, and she just laughed  and told me to wear support stockings - in hot weather-no way! i have over 2 months left, and out of all the pregnancy related ailments (i seem to have them all!!) this is making me the most miserable. Doesn't help that i have to drive 60 miles a day - by the time i get to work, ankles are already size of knees! Sorry for the moan but bit depressed that this probably only going to get worse....

thought i should also update the list, as when i joined didn't know the due date, just the month!

sorry to hear that Katym but unless you can stop the drive you're always going to have swollen ankles - would it be possible to work from home some of the time? Your midwife will be taking note of it as bad oedema (swelling) can be a sign of other complications later on. There are some exercises that will help and using cold compresses will help a little too

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A13045934

If you don't think you're oedema is being taken seriously enough then speak to your GP about it as you may be able to go on water tablets etc but ideally you'd cut out the driving and then you should see some improvement.

Thanks for that Justie. i do work from home when i can, but now the time is drawing nearer, i have more work to do! They're quite understanding here, but don't want to seem flaky or have people think i'm not capable. If it weren't for the fat ankles, i can usually get through fine. Think its more upsetting than having all the other symptoms (we all know the ones i mean!), just because it looks so ugly. The swelling also seems to have caused a million purpley/red broken thread veins... mmm so attractive!!

IMO it's better to look after your health than to worry about what people think..

if you can't reduce the driving and workload then I would go and see your GP and just check if there's any need to worry beyond the cosmetic and irritating.

Katy I sympathise on the ankles, I am only 5 months and suffering pretty badly with them, I can't put my feet up at work.

I find it very upsetting and can't imagine wearing a dress or skirt this year.

I get swelling in my feet and ankles too - it's not too bad yet but I can imagine it getting worse as it gets hotter :(

My ankles aren't slim at the best of times, so this look is certainly not flattering. I don't give a monkey's though, and wear skirts and dresses all the time. :D

On a more positive note, I popped into H&M today and they had loads of lovely maternity stuff - there was a lot on sale as well. I really had to stop myself from buying stuff that I would only wear for another 2 months. :o I did get a strappy top for £2.99 though :j

They also had lovely breastfeeding bras in nice colours and really cute designs (not bf-bra looking at all!) but they only went up to a C-cup
