Should I Contact Car Insurance If I Knocked a Cyclist Off a Cycle

Hi all,

Just had a call from my wife to say she has just knocked a cycylist off a cycle (I don't know much details until she gets back) but the police have got the details at the scene and the cyclist is ok. From what I know the cyclist had no lights on the bike.

Do I contact my car insurance to report this or not

Just wanted to make sure. I will wait until she gets in and calms down before I ask the questions.

Most definitely yes. It will almost certainly be in your T&Cs that you report every accident, whether a claim or not. It's good advice even for a minor bump, but where there is the potential for personal injury* it's essential.

    * the cyclist might say he/she is fine today, but injury accidents often emerge once people get talking in the pub.
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.

Will report in the morning when I know more. Police where at the scene and an ambulance checked him over and he was ok and went on his way.

From what I know so far he had no reflectors, lights or high viz and was cycyling on the road and he came around a roundabout fast as my wife was pulling off from the roundabout at about 10mph

    Her fault then.

    What time did this happen?

Actually it is fairly common for injuries not to become apparent until the next day. I came off my bike once and hit my head and knee on the path. Whilst the gash on my knee and the huge bump on my head were obvious pretty much straight away, it wasn't until the next day that I had the whiplash type pain and could barely move.

That is true, and a fair point. I was thinking more of the chancers who are absolutely OK with everything until six months down the line they meet someone who knows of a no-win-no-fee phone number, and suddenly they are on 24-hour life support and will never work again.
My last job was looking after health and safety for a large site where members of the public had 24-hour access, and I was always astonished how the nicest, friendliest people turned into lying conmen as soon as they got the whiff of a few grand in compo.
