I'm very lucky - but I do work hard at it too!
Ooh, good point - I've not confirmed when they need final figures from us! I think it's quite late though, i.e. the week before or something along those lines. We were planning to send out by late November and RSVP by 31 Jan - do you think that's too late? xMFW 2017 #123 2018: £1,852.64/£39,200 (4.7%)0 -
Eeeeeeee!!
I went wedding dress shopping for the first time on Sunday and I got my dress!! I was excited to go but also nervous because I thought I'd end up not liking anything and being miserable, or that nothing would fit and I'd be miserable. But I had the BEST time :j
I went to the Wedding Dress Factory Outlet in Burbage and the ladies there were just so, SO helpful. I didn't even pick my dress, the lady helping me in the fitting room did. She disappeared off saying she had something in mind and when she came back she wouldn't let me see what she had. She said I'd either love her or hate her for it. So I put it on and at first I couldn't really tell how it was going to look. As she laced the back up though..............I ended up crying! I went out into the shop to look in a larger mirror and I was crying my eyes out in front of 20 people or so. It really is gorgeous and I would have never, ever even given it a second glance on the rail, never mind try it on.
So happy!!!0 -

Thanks Steph - I got panicky and contacted my venue in the meantime, they only need final numbers two weeks before! So think we'll request RSVPs by end of Jan to give us plenty of time to sort table plan etc!
RachyD - how exciting!

They are so amazingly friendly and helpful! I was worried about being rushed and not feeling comfortable but I needn't have worried at all. It was all very relaxed and every member of staff made me feel like I was the most important person in the world. Jess, who helped me in the changing room and picked my dress out, felt like an old friend by the time I was done. I can't recommend the place highly enough.
We drove past the shop once because the sign isn't very big so keep your eyes peeled. It's set back from the road a little and is an old factory-type building. The sign isn't huge but there's also a sign for the photographers that's in the same building so watch out for that tooGood luck!

I'm getting so excited now, I don't know why!! (I think maybe because I'm a midwife and I'm now booking ladies whose babies will be born AFTER I get married!! LOL) Loving reading all your posts about everything getting booked.
I've been having a bit of a drama about my bridesmaids' dresses recently - a dear friend is making them for me and I had bought all the fabric and trimmings, zips etc and was just waiting for the lace to arrive. I'd ordered a whole roll and was expecting it on the Monday. At 9.15 on the Tuesday morning, I received a phone call to say they were out of stock, none on order, had no suitable alternative, didn't know whether they would be ordering any more and even if they did it wouldn't be for 6 months!!! And she didn't even apologise!! So I spent an entire day trawling the internet, phoning other suppliers etc (in between bursting into tears!!) trying to source an alternative. Eventually I've found some, but I'm now torn between ordering 20m for double what I originally would have paid for 25m, or a full 60m roll for half price per metre - still costing more, but I get loads more and could potentially sell it on. Decisions decisions! But the trial dress looks beautiful and I'm super excited about them being made.
Plus, I refused to spend £120 on the veil I wanted, so I have made my own! It's cost £23 for everything, was extremely satisfying to do, AND I have enough tulle to make approx 6 more!! Over-enthusiastic!!
Oh, and I picked up my dress last week too - it's now hanging in my spare bedroom!! (My MIL-to-be's response to this was "Isn't that a bit risky? What if you get FAT??" She can be such a b*tch.) I need a couple of small alterations but not much. And it's SO beautiful - I was really worried I wasn't going to love it as much but it's just gorgeous. RachyD I was a bit like you, very nervous about going to the shops and not feeling comfortable, but a glass of free champers soon sorted those worries and I came out feeling like a princess!
Ooh sorry, got a bit carried away with the posting there... that's what happens when you don't talk about your wedding plans for a few days I guess!!0 -
Hello brides!
Such a long time since I posted, been so busy planning... hope everyone else's plans are coming together well.
We now have our invitations, thrilled with them and sending this week - can't wait to start getting RSVPs!
We've also set up our gift list (ready to start adding items in January) and finished our wedding website.
I have my hair trial booked in for next week, and my make-up trial on Saturday :j Oh and meeting florist to pick flowers next week too!
Started to short-list hymns and readings so hoping to finalise the OoS by Christmas.
Bought table plan frame and some little decorative bits for tables and around venue. Meeting band again next week and have short-listed the songs from their set list and also ones we want them to play during the DJ slots in their breaks.
Main things still to do:
- arrange on the day stationery - can't do any more until February
- dress fitting - March
- jewellery - need to get my grandma's wedding jewellery cleaned/repaired and maybe buy some new earrings
- decide on menu - tasting in February but need to give it some thought in next few weeks too
- favours - though thinking of doing a special cocktail for after wedding breakfast instead
- decide once and for all whether or not to have a cake - we're erring towards not having one as really not bothered and we're having a cake of cheese anyway
- gift for mum and best man/usher
Think that's everything!?!MFW 2017 #123 2018: £1,852.64/£39,200 (4.7%)0 -

Have you tried the dress on in another size or not at all? I only tried mine for the first time recently - it's so exciting! So long as it's not too small you'll be fine, seamstresses can do amazing things. It's hard to know when best to have the fitting - I'm worried about leaving it too late (as I'm a worrier!) but if you have it too early you risk it not being such a good fit by the day... a friend of mine lost so much weight in the run up to her day that when she put her dress on on the day it was rather loose (she didn't try it between collecting and the monring of her wedding )
No idea re the cocktail :rotfl: Just thought it would probably go down better with our guests than a traditional favour, so many of which are usually left on tables at the end. We're going to try to come up with our own creation, maybe a champagne cocktail of some sort? I'm open to suggestions!MFW 2017 #123 2018: £1,852.64/£39,200 (4.7%)0
