Just thought I'd pop in again and say hi!! I have now booked: venue, registrar, photographer, DJ and am negotiating with the caterers!!
Is anyone getting their bridesmaid dresses made? If so do you know what kind of cost in incurs?? I have no idea but I really want them in different colours which I think is going to be hard without getting them made!
Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie. Aug: £10 Hipp Organic vouchers, powerpack. September: Sunglasses. October: £30 poundland vouchers.

Hi Eleanor - I'm doing exactly the same thing! I have 5 bridesmaids and they're having the same dress style but in different colours! I'm having a friend make them so it's only costing me for the fabric, I'm hoping to have the 5 dresses made for about £150. If you have a suitably talented friend who is generous with her time, enlist them! But I'd advise getting enough fabric for an extra dress to mock up - the first one we made ended up nothing like I'd planned and we had to go back to the drawing board. If not, you'll need to find a dressmaker or seamstress to make them for you, but you're unlikely to save anything compared to buying from the shop. Alternatively, the 'proper' bridesmaid dresses sold in bridal shops or at wedding shows usually come in various colours, but they are pretty expensive for what they are, and they weren't the style I was looking for, but they might be what you want? Dessy are particularly good, very customisable for colour. Hope this helps - and congratulations on what you've already booked!
  • We're April 5th 2014 and very much looking forward to it. Spent a month away in Africa which totally took my mind off all of the planning and came back fully understanding that it's not all about the money - three brides shared one huge wedding venue with all of their friends and families to save on the costs!

We had the church, the vicar (my uncle), the reception, the photographer booked before I went away.

On my return we have had to change reception venues as ours put up a marquee in the garden for a 2nd wedding. We've gone for a village hall which we can decorate ourselves and it a lot closer and cheaper.
I've found my dress (new, as the 2nd hand one really wasn't clean) but will definitely haggle between shops to get the price down.
We're having a ceilidh band for the evening, a bit pricier than a DJ but so much more fun.
Caterers we're in the middle of getting quotes for.
Being in Lent, the church doesn't want flowers inside - fine by me as saving money.
Invitations - seem to cost a lot either DIY or professionally printed, not sure what to do about them.
Save the date cards - I put a white rose, with black script writing, played around on photoshop and printed them on cream card. Envelopes on ebay for £7 for 100. Can use the spares as place names and favour holders.
Suits - Moss Brothers do a free suit for the Groom if you hire 4 so that's him sorted.

Shoes and jewellery - not really me so not fussed about those items!

Phew - bit of an epic first post. Apologies!

Thank you so much - I completely missed this response> I think I have found someone. She is coming to see me next week. She will be a lot more than yours but less than Dessy! & tailor made!

We're on the 6th and have so far sorted the following:

Venue (ceremony and reception in one place)
    Venue are providing DJ
    Registrar
    Dress, shoes, bag :)

Omg I think that's about it! We'd better get a bloody wriggle on...

Am doing the invites, rsvp's, place cards, and order of service (if we have one) myself, but have yet to finalise the guest list!!

    Slight panic attack :(

    Did it fit?

I started slimming world on Thursday so I fit in my dress. Printed a copy of the invitation and inserts to go to the printers then I'm cooking on gas :)

Yes thanks, perfect fit - phew! The girls at the shop were amazed, even the length is perfect with my shoes. I just need to have the bodice adjusted slightly across the bust so that it is a snugger fit. Great news, as keeps the alterations costs low. Pressure is now on to stay this size for the next 8 months - my dress is a size 4 (I'm actually a 6, not THAT teeny!) so have not made life easy for myself...

I do want to tone up a teeny bit more around my back though, not sure how easy this will be without bulking up the muscle and therefore getting larger at the same time - think I might need some advice from the fitness board on that one! :undecided

Wow you are super organised! When are you planning to send out invites, and what is your RSVP date? x

A size 4 crikey! I wish I was that size!

Hopefully the invites will be out by the first week of September and the RSVP date is 5th of January just before we have to give final figures :) We're having to get them out early because of the discount I've managed to get for the hotel :)
