April 2014 weddings

Options
It's one year today until I get married :j so now the countdown is really on!

(I don't think there's an April 2014 thread yet, but please move this if I'm wrong...)

There seems to be a few of us April brides so I thought I'd start a breakaway group from the general 2014 thread so that we can better gauge how our planning is coming along - and also start a date countdown! I'm not sure if I'm doing well or not - some of you seem super organised! Here's what we have done so far:

- wedding insurance in place
- venue booked and first two payments (50%) paid - this covers catering, drinks, linens etc
- church booked and marriage prep course attended
- photographer booked and deposit paid
- music for reception booked and deposit paid
- dress, veil and tiara ordered and deposit paid
- suits for all men ordered and deposit paid (includes shoes etc so nothing more to sort for their outfits)
- rings picked and being made, deposit paid
- save the dates sent
- two pairs of wedding shoes ordered, just waiting for them to arrive any day now :)
- hairdresser booked, just need to arrange date for trial

We have also started researching our honeymoon, evening music, cars, florists, MUA and cake, we have a good idea what we want for all of these.

Meeting florist and stationer in coming weeks so aiming to have these elements sorted by end of May.

Looking forward to hearing how everyone else's plans are coming along!

  • So organised

We're confirmed as April 12th now but all we've managed to do so far is deposit on reception venue and my shoes :rotfl:

However, registry office only lets you book a year in advance, so tomorrow/Saturday might bring some good news! I have plans to meet my dress lady next month and am scouting out photographers at the mo.

Ours is going to be pretty low-key/casual/budgety so I think a year ahead is still tons of time!

Love it - I can see you have your priorities right!

Think I probably have gone full steam ahead to an extent, I'm just so excited... and a bit of a worrier/control-freak :o, so I hate not being super organised! I will also be crazy busy with work over the summer months so want to not be stressing about wedding stuff then.

After some major hiccups with our venue/church/dates at the start (if we hadn't booked when we had, we definitely wouldn't have been able to have our venue in April) everything seems to have fallen into place quite nicely (fingers crossed, so far!) so we've just booked things as we've seen them.

We sorted rings and suits so far in advance simply because we wanted to fix the metal price on the rings, and we had an amazing deal on the suits from a wedding fair - full outfits with shoes and accidental damage waiver for less than £100 each, and they are fab quality. We expected way more expensive so this has helped to claw back my budget blunder on my dress...

Good luck sorting the registrar tomorrow!

  • Shoes were actually the first thing because I spotted them and they were limited edition - so good job really!

Technically I suppose more than that is sorted...I know who is making the cake, we should have someone to supply flowers, my friend is designing the invitations, i've got a reasonably decent list of craft projects in mind, and rings will be done by the independent jeweller who made my engagement ring. It's getting there...

wow you're really well organised Sundaysgirl! My wedding is on 5 April and so far we've booked the ceremony and reception (all at the same venue) and the photographer. I need to get quotes from the caterer and then I'll feel a bit better.

I'm going to look at dresses this weekend with my mum and bridesmaids, can't wait :-)

    Wow - sooo organised Steph!

We're getting married at 12.30 too - have you sorted timings for hair and make-up yet? I obviously need to speak to my MUA about this, but just wondering how long I should factor in, don't want to be rushing like crazy (or an hour late for my own wedding, like one of my friends :rotfl:). My hairdresser said just an hour, which really doesn't seem long!

Fleur - enjoy dress shopping :) Do you have any styles in mind? I had some ideas but it's amazing how different the dresses look on to how they do on the hanger.

I've enjoyed being organised so then I don't have to stress nearer the time, plus I got last years prices too :)

No not yet I'm meeting with her in August so I guess it will all get covered then :) I guess it will be an early start for both of us :)

I'm stalking - I got married 3 weeks ago and our hair and make up lady started at 9am to do me and my sister with both hair & make up and my junior bridesmaid's hair with a tiny touch of make up - we JUST made it for 12.30!! And the church was 10 mins down the road!

Oh gosh, I'm getting married at 11am so it sounds like we'll need to be up at the crack of dawn to get everything done!

I don't really have a style of dress in mind, I'm not so keen on strapless but I know that everyone says you change your mind when you start trying them on so that'll be probably what I end up going for lol.

Forgive me ladys for barging in to your forum, but just read the last two post whislt skimming to see if I still get mentioned on here. As a photographer the very best thing for wedding planning is start with a timeline preferable on a computer so you can make changes. And get all my couples to do this for me. List out times and what where and who is need put postcodes and address on then once you have finally as you want make copies for all people involved in your very special day doesnt matter how grand or budgety. Then no one has any excuses for being late flowers not turning up at the right place for example. Hair people know how long they've got and any one can say well actually i need a bit longer. Allow a few breathing gaps so it rush rush all day. And don't be afraid of telling suppiers what you want and negotiate for a better price. and if anyone promises you any extras drop it in the timeline so they dont forget. Make as detailed as possible they really make your days smoother not saying perfect things can always go a little wrong, but put a few 10 minute extras so if needs be you can pull them out and get back on the schedule you want. Its your day this way everyone knows what where and when you want things :) Even ask the dress supply on average how long it takes to get them or even pratice, as many times brides or brides maids dont and they end up being very late.

And dont settle for the cheapest photographers there lots of the better ones that need work at the mo the market is very quite. Two reasons finacial climate and the fact there a 13 in this I realise that the later doesnt effect you ladys getting married next year. My wedding are down 50% on last year I fourtunate that suits me to save money on Child care and have some extra time with my beautiful daughter.

Have the ultimate time line one of my clients did a few years ago, he sat through our meeting and made notes he job is as a planner. If you like pm me and dig out a copy.

Take care and wish all a wonderful wedding days!!!!
