I know both your frustrations same here! One of my smallest debts was catalogue and they set two DCAs on to me, requested the highest payment amount out the lot. In the end I requested my CCA and they could not produce its gone quiet now and they get zero now, DCA cannot chase me but catalogue company could.

£30 is £30 if I asked you for it you wouldn't give it me, if they lost it on the street they would look for it so it is important.

In fact another DCA which was originally a catalogue gets paid up in a few months and we are in dispute over £21.20 over my dead body are they getting it!

But gowd in the whole mess of my finances is it worth it - damn yes every penny is precious and I have paid enough sodding interest to refuse to pay twice!

debrag - was checking my credit file and one of my accounts was closed and went over to a DCA never noticed it before. Anyway I think by law they have to contact you within a certain number of days if they do that. The link I put earlier for newlywed have a read through see if its mentioned in there and then write to the credit company.

If you do though you will be reminding them and the DCA will probably contact you and you can arrange payment with them through payplan - it depends do you want peace of mind and know your paying or do you want to play the waiting game - only you can answer that one!

Yeah really tempted to go down the CCA request one - I know they don't have a signed one. I know I never signed any papers. But I still owe the money so in my view they can have the correct amount I owe. But they've lost half of it already which is why I'm so mad.

Well you could do what I plan to do with mine and leave it till the end.

They won't try to find the missing payment of £21.20 so I have set it up so my standing order finishes leaving that missing payment, then just let them take me to court! Which of course they won't!

You are in slightly better position than me as you have a charity behind you who can prove payments, I can prove through bank statements etc but my missing payment was a cheque which cleared but will cost me £5 to get a copy so I am reluctant!

Oh with regard the CCA thing I am not too sure how I stand, I know that a DCA cannot chase me for the money but the original debtor can, and its kinda grey if they can chase you through court or not - think catalgoes are a bit different there is info on National Debthelpline website if you want to arm yourself. SO personaly with such little amount I wouldn't bother but its your choice!

DCA on the whole don't do that, you hear horror stories but that is when people don't pay regularly.

You may have to pay a fee when they take over but after then the debt should come down and by law they are not allowed to charge too much.

If you want peace of mind and you sound so worried you should write to the credit company ask why the account is closed and get the ball rolling.

Most my debts are with DCA and they can be better than the original companies to deal with especially when you are with one of the charities so do not worry too much!
