  • Anybody know if its difficult to get car insurance spread over 12 months with a bad credit rating?

Or do you have to pay it all up front?

My renewals not up yet, but just checking for future :)
  • WorriedMart.

Just renewed mine and i am on a DMP with defaults on my credit file. Went through AA car insurence (Happened to be the cheapest) and because i went through Quidco i have £70 tracking as cash back. Paid the deposit by debit card and selected instalments as means of paying.

I suppose what i am saying is that i had no problem at all spreading the cost over 12 months.

    Good luck

  • hi all
i have not posted much but have just started my dmp which some of you lovely people gave me some great advice on. i have made 1 payment so far,so crediters will get first cccs payment at end of month.i just paid token payment in august as suggested.so far i have received a default notice from egg on my loan.capital one have sent my statement which has zero interest on it and no late fee,so that debt has gone down just hope it continues as i have not heard from them at all.A & L have sent me a letter saying they have received my correspondence and can i ring them but cccs said i could just igmore it.so i guess im quite lucky really as it seems that i have one out of three agreed in first month.
just wanted to say thankyou to all of those who helped me when i was setting up my dmp.i know its early days but things seem so much better already

Well done on your DMP. Egg are one of mine and they are very quick with the default but they have at least stopped interest and late charges on my account.

Well done and keep visiting and let us know how you get on.

That's good news Paula. Mint never ever replied to any letters I sent, they just issued me a default and then a few months later quietly stopped charging interest so no news is often good news.

I'm still trying to get to grips with building a savings fund for emergencies as the car seems to keep needing work on it so the money goes!! ;)

I wish I'd understood about DMP's years ago and sorted it out back then. To be honest, if I hadn't found this thread earlier in the year I don't know what state I'd be in now - emotionally as well as financially!!

We have never had trouble paying for car insurance by direct debit monthly so you should be fine you don't pay it your not insured so its not much of a risk to them!

But speaking of car insurance I am fuming with Budget - tune off now if you don't want to read a rant!

We went with them on 7 May for the year paid £68 end of April then 10 months to pay. Husband got a promotion and company car so we sold our old car and told them on 8 August to cancel the policy we knew we would get charged. He had to pay over £90 to end it, plus we had paid two months at £30 and the initial deposit of £68.

Today we recieved a letter to say we have till tomorrow to pay £30 or it goes to a debt collection agency first we knew of it. This means an initial policy we took out for £360 for the whole year after 4 months of cover we will have paid them approximately £249. Woman said we had to pay for Aug to Sep payment :o

Anyway we are putting it in writing we want a full statement as the policy states 50% and maybe a £55 charge either way they ain't getting another penny out of us.

Now wake up my rant is over lol!

Who dared to mention blinking car insurance!

Guys, I had to tell you as I'm sure you're the only ones who'll be as happy as I am without thinking I'm mad.

My dad (Chairman of the Head in the Sand, It'll Sort Itself Brigade)'s light is fully on :j He's only got himself (well with a little shove from me :D) a second job!

  • Ah Ideal Thanks peeps.. I was worrying over how I would save up enough to pay it all up front.. Glad I should still be able to spread it out :)
  • Morning all!

I have just sent off my DMP agreement to CCCS and only just sent my DMP notifications to my creditors so I doubt they will have received them yet.

I cancelled my DD'd online with HSBC last week and yesterday I received a letter from HSBC saying that they were unable to cancel the DD for my loan payment to them until it was fully paid off. My worry is that they will continue to take this loan payment from an already overdrawn account plus charges which will be a result of them taking me overdrawn! <and breathe>

Any suggestions would be gratefully welcomed guys!
