Over the past 12 months i have been hit with £190 in charges with the halifax for four failed direct debits. I have just sent a letter demanding a full refund under the hardship waiver, and i will let you know the outcome when i hear back from them.
when i opened the account i was not in employment and i stated that i did not want a overdraft facility, however, they still gave me one knowing i was not working. My overdraft is now almost £2000.
I wouldnt call that responsible lending!!!!0 -
hi peeps.
What is the average time for organisations to process these claims? I have had mine in for about a month and although I got a confirmation letter a couple of days after sending my first letter I was hoping i would have heard something by now.
I feel as thought I will have to go for stage 2 but hoped it would have been sorted in my favor without this step0 -

Hi
I requested all bank charges from halifax back in march- had to request twice befre they finally replied. I then sent them an initial letter using the template on the website reclaiming all charges plus interest in June 08- not heard anything since. Do i write again??? does anyone have the correct address the claim should be sent to?? i sent to my local branch.
Thanks0 -
Hi
This may question may be a little different. I used to have an account with Abbey National i have records going back just over 7 years. Can i claim the whole 7 years back or do i stay with the 5/6 years?
Also, i had the account when i lived in England, however, being in the RAF i'm based in Scotland. Do i have to use the scottish court systems or can i register my claim with the english courts?
Many thanks in advance0 -
Can i reclaim unfair charges on my business bank account or does it only apply to personal banking0

My son had an agreement with Lloyds to pay off his rather foolish overspend on his overdraft at the rate of 20 pounds a month, now they have withdrawn this agreement and put interest on the balance outstanding so that of the 20 pounds a month he pays only 4 pounds is paid off the debt and the other 16 pounds goes in interest charges. Is there anything he can do about this as when he phoned them he was basically told "tough luck"0

Yep, follow Martins step by step guide and you should get it all back, altough you probably wont get the cash back, it'll more likely be offset against any outstanding balance you have but it all helps!
good luck.0 -
Hi Vicky
Can you let me know if you've an outstanding debt with Barclaycard on a credit card, and if so, did they credit your bank account that is with Barclays, or did they credit a current account you have elsewhere?
I'm just querying because i'm tempted to claim my charges back but am on an IVA so they will probably just credit the debt that is outstanding on my card, which wont really be any use to me short-term.
Thanks for any advice given
Hey!
I didn't have an outstanding debt with Barclaycard, I paid it off a couple of years ago.
I had thought that my account was closed and never got any statements but actually it must have still been active because they initially paid the balance onto my Barclaycard. I phoned up the call centre and gave my Halifax Current Account details and they transferred it over - it took 5 working days to clear.
I don't really know what would happen if I were still using my card but I suppose you could do what I did and just ask for it to be transferred to another account, might be risky though if you still owe money to Barclaycard.
Sorry I can't help you any more than that but good luck if you chose to do it!
