    Hi Edinburghlass

In response to my query -
    Hi

Im not sure if the charges for unpaid direct debits applied to my Egg Loan qualify as bank charges. I've just received statements for my Egg Loan for the past 4 yrs and see that I've a total of £400 charges  (each one a charge of £20) never mind any interest! I'd be interested to know whether I could claim these back

    Any advice appreciated!

    - The thing is - these are bank charges - If I claim these will be put on hold until the court decision is reached - right?

    thanks again

More than likely but get the claim in anyway.
  • Hi, My girlfriend reiceved an £8 charge for being £8 short on a Direct debit payment. She was then charged £25 and then repeatedly charged for not paying it. She paid none of the charges. It has gone to debt collectors and now a solicitor who's threatening Litigation. It now totals £444.

Is it possible to use the reclaiming system to cancel this debt if these charges are unlawful?

Also is it too late to to appeal this and would court procedings be delayed while this is done?

Any help would be great, thanks!!

You could ask them to stop litigation as you are in dispute with the bank of the debt but you would need to put a claim into the bank now. Should any monies eventually be reclaimed it will be put towards any debt no matter who holds it.
  • Hi, this is only my second post ( think I put the first 1 in the wrong forum oops) I have just sent off my template letter with a list of calculated charges today for reclaiming my bank charges (£930), I've just been on the main site and noticed the interest calculator, which would of made my total a bit more, didn't think I had to use it, but now think I should have? I bank with Alliance & Leicester, any advice is much appreciated, thankyou.
  • hi i need a little bit of advice, I am in the process of reclaiming my bank charges for the last 6 years wich total £950. I have received a letter today from the Bank stating that they agree to pay £60 for the month Jan 08 as this was the only month where more money went out of my account than went in. Can anyone advise me what to do net as i dont think this is a very fair offer. I have not asked for the interest, just the charges themselves back, what is my next step, HELP.
  • Wrote to Woolwich in June, no answer, waited a bit, sent another letter at the beginning of October, still nothing, sent duplicate to Barclays at the same time, expect my Woolwich charges to be a few thousand, what should i do next. Does anyone have a number for Woolwich or should i call Barclays??
  • Isn't it about time that the Government got involved in the bank charges argument, they have already begun to pass comment on the PPI case.

How much longer are we going to have to wait for a verdict from the Appeal Court, don't they understand that this money would help so many people who are struggling.

At least if the banks start to charge for current accounts we will be able to shop around for the cheapest, you don't get chance with bank charges.

hi all, I started the reclaiming process on my neighbours charges about a year ago. about 4 months ago she fell into serious financial difficulty due to her husband losing his job so only having one income. I wrote to halifax for her explaining, and went down the financial hardship route. we filled all the necessary in about 8 weeks ago and recieved a reply to say they are looking into it. after much chasing they finally told her that it was going to be looked at on the friday of that week and she could phone back on the monday to see what the outcome was. she phoned and they hadn't looked at it and then said it wouldn't be looked at until the 4th of november. she phoned on the 5th of november and was told that whoever has been giving her dates shouldn't have as there are no allocated dates. she has been messed around and told lies like you wouldn't believe. she is now in litigation over mortgage arrears and unless she gets her money back she's going to lose her home. Can anyone offer any advice over what to do next as I feel awful for her and want to help.
    thanks guys

and now for my own problem!
I have been going down the financial hardship route with lloyds tsb over charges totalling around £1000. At first they refused to acknowledge financial hardship despite the fact that their own customer support unit had decided that I was in financial hardship. So sent a strong response to this and recieved 2 acknowledgemnts both with different complaint reference numbers (??????). and have heard nothing since. In the meantime I had to open a new bank account as everytime money went into the lloyds account they were snatching it. I am now £210 over the overdraft limit as they keep applying charges to my account. all of my £410 I owe on this account by the way is charges applied in the last 2 months. I have tried reasoning with them to no avail. I did have another unauthorised overdraft letter by the way telling me that they will be charging me £15 per day for this unauthorised overdraft !!!!
any advice would be appreciated guys as i'm not brilliant with dealing with things. thanks again

So, with everything going belly up, how does everyone thing this will effect claims?

I am curious about this too! I haven't claimed my charges yet as I wanted to pay off my overdraft first so I wouldn't be left in the lurch if they closed it on me. Now I'm worried I left it too late.
My personal opinion is that since some of the banks are now nationalised then any repayments of charges may be perceived as coming out of the public purse. I wonder if this will make the courts decide in the banks' favour?

Does anyone else know what might be happening with this now that the economy is going down the drain?
    Debt at July 2008 = £[strike]9900[/strike][STRIKE]Nov 08 - £8824 [/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Jan 2009 = 8261.51 SLOW GOING[/STRIKE]
April 2009 = £8425  Going backwards! Getting back on the MSE wagon.
  • when reclaiming my bank charges i have calvulated what the bank actually owe me and i have added the interest calculator from this site! Would it be wise to also add a little extra on top or is that a bad decision can anyone help?
