Reclaim Unfair Bank Charges article discussion Part II

Hiya Shydebbie
Best thing to do 1st is get in touch with the Financial Ombudsman and tell them about your mission with the banks, they will write a letter to them to seriously consider your circumstances. The banks have to look at peoples claims if they fall into financial hardship, which sounds like you have a good case. The financial ombudsman can give you an address to send your letter to abt your claim. If you have old bank statements dating back six years you can claim these back by sending photocopies of these to them.Enclose a covering letter that you wish to claim under Financial Difficulty terms. If you dont have bank statements dating back 6 years you can ring up the bank and ask for these to be sent to you with a fee of £10 which you have to pay.Send all that to the bank but state you are claiming from Financial Harship. That should get the ball rolling for you.
GOOD LUCK!0 -
Can soemone please advise exactly what constitues financial hardship. I've had a look on the Financial Ombudsman website and although it states that in such cases the complaint will be looked at, it doesn't state what hardship is ??
Thx0 -

Its a tricky one, but if you feel that you are struggling financialy (and lets face it many of us do in this country especially with banks ripping us off) then write to your bank using Martins template letter and explain why you feel that you are struggling.
I am with the halifax and i sent them my own financial budget sheet detailing my income and out goings, but.. oh no, shock, horror...more stalling tactics as they then a week later sent me one of there own sheets to fill in with EXACTLY the same details on.
So you got nothing to lose in asking and everything to gain.:D
Good luck:TNot just a white vanman:cool:

Hi
I've just been stung by the charges, for 5.88 returned DD they charge £30.00. Visited the local branch and they are under strict instructions not to refund if you already had a refund no matter what the circumstanes are. Well that's caring for you. i'm so annoyed but what option do poor consumer have if they have an overdraft?    :mad:0 -

Sent my claim in yesterday!
I'm one of those people who never really checked my statements (mainly because it was always so depressing!) I checked the latest one because I'd tried so hard last month to stay within my overdraft limit and there was I was over the limit again. There was the awful truth tucked quietly away in the middle of the statement; "Overdraft excess charges" - £190! A friend had mentioned this site a few days before so I joined up.
I checked back and discovered that in 2005, Lloyds TSB took £427 in charges from my account in one month:eek: . And there was I wondering why I was getting through my salary so quickly!0 -
Has anyone actually had any luck wth Halifax claiming Financial hardship?
If so how long did it take after sending in your budget sheet of income and out goings? Not just a white vanman:cool:

Could anyone advise if maternity pay is classed under financial hardship? I have a claim on hold at the moment with RBOS. Thanks!0

Hi, I put my claim in for £126 of recent bank charges all because I was £5 overdrawn with the halifax.
I had asked the cashier at my local bank to close another halifax account and transfer the money to cover the charges and to give me the remainder. However she made an error in her calculations which meant their wasnt enough to cover the charges. I have proof!
I have now been stung with futher charges, why should I have to pay this again as I am not to blame as I put my trust in the cashier to do the calcualtions! It doesn't inspire confidence if they cant add up!
I went to the main branch and explained my situation, my previous complaint was closed as I sent my own financial statement instead of their official document (which is the same thing) I am claiming due to financial hardship and these charges are taking away a large percentage of my income. will I ever see this money again? has anyone had a successful claim with the halifax recently?0
