    Hiya,

I am claiming bank charges with 3 banks but in particular Lloyds TSB. I mentioned in a post before that i had a letter from them from their Customer Recovery Centre in ANDOVER saying that they had deduced that i was in financial difficulty and that unlike other cases the suspension did not apply to mine. They also said that their Customer Support Unit would be in touch within 1 week however this never happend. I left it two weeks and today finally rang them and complained about no respnse from them. I was passed from pillar to post had to ring the Recovery Centre who said i need to speak to Collections who in turn put me through to Customer Support Unit who said i need to speak to Recovery again who then said i needed to speak to phne banking. At this point i got really angry and said that if something was not sorted by 5pm i would be taking them to court as i am a financial difficulty case my claim should be getting something done about it. They gave me the number to the Financial Ombudsman and told me to give them a ring which i have done. They have said that my case is something they can definately help with and are sending me out a complaint form and in turn i have to send them all my letters n replys along with the form. I am just wondering if anyone else has had to do this and if so what was the outcome? I understand that the charges are my fault and people have been waiting for their claim lnger then i have bu as the Ombudsman said Hardship cases should be treat with Sympathy and of course this sint the case with Lloyds TSB.

    Thank you

I have just spoken to someone at the BBA. They have told me that the banks intend to fight this all the way, and it could be another year before we get our money back. I told her that it was alright for them but all I want is to get my money back pay my debts and start living my life. She told me to contact the bank involved explain my situation to them and if I got no joy to get back to her. So much for the banks co-operating with the OFT they intend to drag this out for as long as possible. I think we should contact our MPs to ask them to put a stop to this and tell the banks to get their act together
  • Night-Owl, the other day: thanks for the link saying Barclays are cutting overdraft charges. My bank, HSBC, seems to be whacking them up.

I've just been charged £50 for going overdrawn for the very first time, because it was twice within a week. Each time was just for a couple of days.

    Any other banks doing this?

I have tried to imput the figures into the interest calculator but all the bank have provided me with is a month and year of when the charges occured.
Any advise on how I can go about this?

Look on your most recent statement and check what actual date any charges are taken and then use that date say the 1st of the month for each charge.

Also looking at the charges is there anything you think I can't claim back for instance the standing order charges or is it a case of if there was a charge I can claim it back?

These charges occured over a bad period in our lives between May 04 and Jul 05 so I am keen to reclaim what I can as these charges made our finances worse than they originally were!!!!

You'll find a list of what you can and can't claim in the Reclaim Help Thread which is linked in my signature.

I phoned LloydsTSB and asked for (and received) a list of all the charges against my account.

What they sent included overdraft interest, account charges, overdraft excess fees, unpaid direct debits and unplanned overdraft fees.

I'm not sure what I can claim back from them. I think the excess fees and unplanned overdraft fees are a given (and stand at £1882) but what about the unpaid direct debits? Can these be claimed back (£787)?

Also how good are the banks at repaying now that there is a pause in proceedings? I believe that they are supposed to deal with hardship cases regardless...

    cheers

You'll find a list of what you can and can't claim in the Reclaim Help thread which is linked in my signature. As regards hardship cases you can ask them to look at your claim and they are likely to ask for lists of your income and outgoings and what hardship you are encountering. Read Martin's article here regarding this.
