Reclaim Unfair Bank Charges article discussion Part II

Hi there,
I am a customer with Barclays, and have prepared my initial letter to send off, asking for details of all the charges on my account over the past 6 years. I just need to know (particulary from you guys that are claiming/have claimed from Barclays) where it's best to send the letter to?
Would it be the local branch I set my account up with? or somewhere different?
Any guidance would be much appreciated :-)
Thanks0 -
hi, we are in th exact same position to you, apart from the repossession as we have alot of debts but cant keep on top of them. we receive tax credits and as you say it is a downward spiral and it is very confusing on when, how and at what point to claim back money. i only have a part time job which pays our utility bills, tax credits for shopping and my husbands wage 90% goes on the mortgage, you just cant win. i am also waiting for someone to tell me what to say to the abbey its just so confusing. just thought id let you know you are not alone, easy to say i know but just keep your chin up and we will all get through things eventually.
if you ring your bank and say that you are on benifits and quote the Social Security Administration Act they must pay money back into your account as the law states that if your main income is from benifits they cannot take charges from it as it is the bare min the law states that you can live on hope this helps0 -
Thanks for the replies Kayla and jinxster.
We actually rang Abbey at the beginning of the week and explained about the Social Security administration act. Got the bloke in Bangalore in quite a tizzy LOL. He gave us another number to ring spoke to someone in the UK and they have referred our claim to their legal department who are supposed to get back to us by the end of the week. Even if they only pay back the last two years since we have been on benefits it will be a huge help as it's over £2K. We have also pushed for them to consider the whole of our claim as well since we already explained about our financial hardship in our letter registering our claim. Will let you know how we get on.
If anyone is having difficulties paying utility bills while on benefits (we just got a £400 electricity bill from EDF as we had to cancel our DD arrangement because of bank charges) so we rang up to say we couldn't pay it in full and they told us about the EDF Energy Trust who make grants to clear arrears for people on benefits/in financial difficulty in the hope you can get straight again. We've been accepted by the scheme after filling in an online application form showing our outgoings/incomings and they also contacted the Anglian Water Trust for us too. We just had to send in copies of our benefits letters proving what we've got coming in. Not sure if any of the other companies have a similar arrangement.0 -
Checked bank acount last night and £120 missing, called Nationwide and they took it for interest charges for January and February, really needed that money to pay my Open University fees. This is going to land me in trouble, any suggestions as to what I do next as I am now considering moving banks. Thanks.:mad:0

Does anybody knows what is the latest on bank charges? It seems to gone all quite unless I have missed the post!!! I have put my claim into a claim firm who are waiting to take it to the claims court as Barclays offered me £850 out of £2000 charges, I told them where to go, as unfortuantly I am stuck in a wheelchair and have very little income coming in. yes there are possible few thounsand people that are in same boat. Somewhere along the line since our money cannot be paid via the post office we have to suffer the humilation of the banks who have riped us off, and the goverment is raking it in with there taxes0

You have to contact there head office, but be aware you may have to file in a claims court as Barclays are very bad for paying money back I have applied to get money back for charges but they only offered me £850.:o Read my post below . I am afraid that you will have to fight but would sugest that you find a company that will do a no win fee for you, they will also claim court charges for there time, and you will have to pay there fee dependeding on how much you are claiming. I hope this will help you sorry it is not all good news0 -
Hi, Can anyone tell me whether I can claim any or part of my overdraft interest that has been charged, as well as unfair bank charges?0
-
Can someone quickly tell me where to find some information as to what i can claim back?
overdraft interest
late payments etc
missed payment for credit cards etc
just wanted a list as i have my statements back for my credit card and a list of the charge for my current account.0 -
Can i claim interest back at all?
and not just interest on the balance but interest on the charges they charged me?0 -
Hi
I have charges totaling £7,790 from over the past 6 years, mostly coming from 2007 and this year. I wrote to the bank etc, and have been told to wait until the OFT case has been finalised before they will continue. I have wrote to them today offering a settlement of 25% less of my asking reclaim.
However I don't expect them to agree to this, I was wondering what I should do to prepare myself afterwards, as I wouldn't be eligible to take it to small claims court.
I haven't asked for interest etc, and the bank in question is barclays, my claim started from 01/03/08.
Any help appreciated from people especially who have had this query before.0
