I successfully reclaimed my bank charges last year :-)
however, since then ive still been getting charges cos i go over my limit quite a lot so have probs had about £500 in charges since.
do you know if i can still reclaim my latest charges? or can i not do that seeing as i have already claimed??0 -
If this is of use to anyone -
I went overdrawn to the tune of about £5 on my Halifax Current Account, noticed it on the same day, unfortunately after close of business, and immediately credited my account to cover the shortfall. I rang the Halifax to be told that I would be charged the princely sum of £35 for doing so.:eek::eek:
As the charge had not shown on my account I waited for the letter to arrive, and, yes, £35 was due to be taken from my account shortly.
I rang the Halifax a few days later, spoke to a nice Scottish chap, explained the situation and asked to appeal against the charge. He immediately cancelled the charge without argument, and I was pretty chuffed with that after half expecting a fight!
I think it is partly who you get the other end of the phone, and partly how you approach the phone call and the way you come across that influences how much trouble you get trying to cancel these charges. I have done this a few times in the past and have usually been successful.
To be honest, if the charge was more realistic and truly reflected the cost to the Halifax (say up to £5 in this instance) I would have more than likely just paid up. But then again I suppose the Halifax figure that few people will actually call and ask to cancel the charges, so those who do not challenge these extortionate fines pay for those that do.
:rolleyes:If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

Hi
can anyone tell me if bank can charge 35 pounds to inform by letter that phone bill was not paid due to not enough funds in account , so now i have to pay 30 to bank and still arrange payment to phone company.

Just read the posts about the Social Security Administration Act - all the money that goes into my husbands account is income-based Jobseekers Allowance so can they legitimately deduct Bank Charges from that? I got our claim registered and as I said above asked for it to be considered immediately due to financial difficulties but they say we have to prove we have the difficulties despite already explaining our position. We have managed to get our repossession adjourned thanks to the in-laws paying a chunk off the arrears for us but we'll end up in the same position again if we can't get out of this Catch22 with the charges i.e. our benefits get paid a couple of days late our DDs bounce then when they take the charges that's most of our benefits gone so there's no money left to pay the next lot of DDs - it's just a downward spiral and when we stop paying by DD some of the organisations charge us a monthly fee for not having a DD in place Could someone advise what I should tell Abbey about deducting charges from benefits - I'm at my wits' end.0

Sent off about 2 weeks ago the second letters to get charges back of about £1,700 over 3 accounts with RBS, not heard anything from them, I am also still waiting for them to present the cheques to my account to cover the cost of the statemtens
, these were dated 7th Jan. i'm taking great care that i don't go less than £20 in the account so they can charge me again
:j Glad Iv'e found this site :j0 -
Apologies if this has been touched on elsewhere but if the court decides that bank charges aren't unlawful, is it conceivable that banks could reclaim the monies they paid out to customers who complained about the "unlawful" charges?
Thankfully, I've never had any charges but just wondered about this. After posting about receiving an email to my MSE username/email from 'Money Expert' (note the use of ' '), I am now unable to post on MSE. Such is life.0 -
I don't know if someone else has already asked this but i want to reclaim about £300 of bank charges from Natwest. Unfortunately I had to close my account a month ago. I applied for the bank statements and they sent them twice, charging me £5 for each, I had only put £5 in the account so obviously i was then charged for going over, and then charged again, and again and again. They have a system that they will charge you at the beginning of the month for the next month. When i complained they did cancel future charges and have promised (still haven't recieved) a £5 refund on the original statements. This frustrated me so much that I closed the account. Which I am now regretting because I want to reclaim my charges, Is it ok to do this after the account has been closed?0
