Help please! My Mum, who is 76, unfortunately very recently, paid out 2 amounts totalling approx £44. Halifax has sent her a letter charging her £35 for each transaction and another £25 for admin?? that will apply to her account at the end of this month. This £44 is the only amount overdrawn. Can they do this? What can I advise her. Its outrageous!!!!0

Hi again,
Finally got a reply to our claim against Abbey for charges on hubby's account. Seems like a fairly standard letter saying that they aren't dealing with any claims until the Test Case is settled. They have registered the claim though and as I mentioned we were suffering financial difficulties and would like them to consider the claim ASAP there is paragraph about that. They have asked for information why we consider we are suffering financial difficulties - I wrote in the letter that my husband had been made redundant and has been unable to find work for 2 years and is claiming Job Seekers Allowance, I am living on Disability Benefits and we have been summonsed for repossession due to mortgage arrears - what more can I tell them to show we are indeed suffering financial difficulties for goodness sake.
What does everyone suggest I do now ?0 -

Post 13 here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=400981 gives the timing of MCOL, however as its bank charges MCOL generally automatically will stay the case and you need to read this thread...

Can anyone help, my overdraft has been taken away, i assume because I have been off of work for over a year after having a baby, I have gone overdrawn by about £100 due to direct debits coming out and have been charged on 5 occassions each time there has been some activity on the account such as a direct debit coming out where they have charged me £35. Is this allowed, I notice that you can't claim back where you have over spent so does this mean that they can just keep charging me every time there is activity on the account. I have contacted the bank (Abbey) and they have stated that they may be able to refund me £60 if I have not reclaimed charges before in the last year.
I'd also like some advice on another issue ..... I have an account with Lloyds where I have to keep at least £2000 in the account otherwise i am charged £10, I get certain benefits with the account .... are these charges lawful. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.0 -

This will be charges for unauthorised overdraft and yes it is allowed however you can claim it back but you will need to get your account into credit to stop the charges.

You can't claim back the interest for going overdrawn by overspending.

Up to you if you accept this or start a reclaim but as above unless you get your account into credit they will continue to charge you. If it is your first and only charges its always good to phone and see if they will refund.
I'd also like some advice on another issue ..... I have an account with Lloyds where I have to keep at least £2000 in the account otherwise i am charged £10, I get certain benefits with the account .... are these charges lawful. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
This is a service charge on that account for the benefits that you receive and are not reclaimable. If you don't use the benefits then you should think about changing that particular account.0 -
I am trying to reclaim charges from Studio Cards which is a catalouge company, who have been chargin me £20.00 everytime my payment is late, the reason my payments are late is because I pay everything via my bank online mainly, they have no facility to do this so on occasions my payment is late, £20.00 for what, sending me my next statement (no reminder) so it can't really cost them anything apart from bolder ink maybe, can I do this I have wrote to them and they say I can't as it is stated in the t&c's shall I push on and maybe send off second letter.Claimed back almost £4000 so far from HSBC for mis-sold PPI
£2083.00 + £242.00 8% interest from FirstPlus and lower monthly premiums:D Studio Cards paid off my account and gave me £125.00 in gift vouchers. £500.00 Barclays.0
