Do you prefer quiet or lively while on holiday?

Thanks to everyone about going to Venice, mandi thanks would have gone to Fuerteventura but no flights (more in summer not easily accessible at this time of year) so chose Tenerife, or I'm thinking was sort of panicked, rail roaded into it and got carried away.

Booked a hotel but now with time and calm reading the reviews are:eek::eek: the hotel is up a mountain, minimum age is for the over 60's, nothing anywhere near, the nearest tiny town 20 mins walk away, very windy, hotel staff terrible, buffet yuck, cockroaches etc etc

OH says calm down dear ;) it is what you make it:D

I say let's change to playas de las americas where it is lively and people are under 60 and there is things to do.

I rang the customer help line and they say I am within time so can pick another hotel and alter the transfer, may be a few £ more or a few £ less but look at hotels that are within what I already spent.

OH says leave it but we saved good and hard for this, I want it to be perfect, am I just being a panicky silly woman , what would you do?

Up a mountain with nothing in sight or in playa de las americas with people and things to do?

Look on Tripadvisor. I ALWAY do and they're ALWAYS (well nearly ;) ) right. I personally would have to have younger people around me as I'd think it was a better atmosphere.

    Where have you booked BTW?

I'd be careful with reading reviews. You have to read between the lines. I've seen places clearly marked as being 500 yards from the beach, but the reviews full of people complaining they had to walk 500 yards to the beach.

Clearly reviews are all a matter of personal taste and are useful as a reference point, but it all depends. One person's party hotel is anothers graveyard.

I guess if you change it you'll probably find stuff in the reviews of the new hotel, that you don't like as well..........but you do have to weigh up what the big things are that you're after.....

THat's just it I have been looking on trip advisor and panicked myself there are some reviews but some awful ones, that's where my sensible OH kicks in and says that it is bound to be like that, to take the positives and just let's go, that I am over thinking it (who me?:rotfl:) and I should just go and enjoy:D

I will link it if I can remember how to do it...

I've read a LOT of TA reviews and been to the hotels after. Link it or give us the hotel name and place and I'll find it and tell you what I personally think based on those reviews.

I know reviews are very personal and some people are impossible to please, I'M just very money conscious, we've saved so hard, the in laws are going out of their way to help us, health has been real bad recently, we could do with a holiday etc etc it is a proper move a mountain to get there and want it to be perfect.

The reviews that are putting me off are the staff are terrible, the average age is over 60, the food is luke warm and rubbish, it is up a mountain, the hotel on the outside looks like a prison, there is nothing , absolutely nothing within the area (20 mins walk to the nearest village etc) it is very very windy...

On the negative side, this is a deeply unattractive part of Tenerife, close to the airport, located on scrubland, on a windy headland and not close to any resort with a day or night life as far as we could see. Our sea view room looked out over a rather boring Bay which had no appeal at all. The worst aspect of the hotel for us was the very hard bed and pillows which created problems for my wife who was suffering from the after affects of whiplash. I am a seasoned traveller but even I found it difficult to sleep on these beds. As an all-inclusive hotel there is always the risk of noise and drunkeness but in fairness after 11 p.m. it seemed quiet.
