Or failing to understand the basic dynamics of flight.

Thats a bit off. There were many issues with AF447, far deeper than indicated above.
For example, was training sufficient? Many Sims still don't have an accurate flight model for fully developed stall for example, so how can you train for a scenario you have never seen or experienced?0 -

I was really looking for an organisation where the driver's responsibilities are similar.
Both have to drive a tube through mostly boring conditions and probably get back to home turf at night?
During my life time the pay for certain jobs have changed considerably:
For my first house purchase the Estate agent got considerably less than my solicitor.
Coventry (where?) car workers and Fleet Street (where?) print workers got at least double the average industrial wage, not to mention London (where?) dock workers.
Driving a plane, especially for BOAC, was a truly glamorous job, with paid holidays in far away places like Hawaii, because the minimal hours on the rota had run out. The train drivers with a heritage of steam engines and a union restricting membership were still an elite (as tube drivers still are?) and lorry drivers were expected to work 22 hours across 02:00 hours and were restricted by A, B, C licences and 30 MPH speed limits. Though I do remember Exxon signing a record breaking deal with the drivers at new Fawley refinery (all been outsourced now?).
It would be interesting to know the relative rates of pay and hours of work these days.
How much does a tube driver get when compared with a Eurostar driver ?0 -
All pilots in the UK are limited to 900 block hours maximum in the UK in accordance with current CAA regulation.

Griffiths ran an anti-immigration campaign, benefiting from the infamous slogan "If you want a !!!!!! for a neighbour, vote Labour". It is a common misconception that this was Griffith's campaign slogan. In fact, posters with the racist slogan were erected around the area, although it is unclear as to who was responsible for them.
Whether it was formally his campaign slogan I agree is debateable but he certainly did not dissociate himself from it.

I'm no expert myself, but my other half reckoned that the average small plane pilot wouldn't have had the same difficulties, as they are more used to dealing with a stall....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

It means that pilots can only opearate an aircraft for a maximum of 900 hours from chocking out at the gate to chocking in at destination, in a 12 calendar month period. Some airlines contract less than the 900, but none can exceed it. There are daily and calendar month limits too.0 -

Accidents never have a single cause or single contributory factor. Many newspaper headlines think they do, I have never investigated or studied an accident that a single cause was only evident.
That's not just aviation. That's healthcare, oil, gas, nuclear and high consequence industrial manufacture.
All pilots know stall recovery, the problem is, with a swept wing on modern airliners the traditional signs of stall may not be present. Combine this with the extreme turbulence encountered whilst flying through a thunderstorm they had, together with some very unique flight control laws, potential aircrew fatigue, no airspeed indications for a significant portion of the stall and no realistic stalling model in the sim, they found themselves in a situation where everything lined up.
The entire airline industry is currently reviewing its training procedures to prevent reoccurrence, but its going to take some pretty big changes in attitude amongst the budget holders to ensure the changes are put in place.0 -

Whats off about it?
Basic training must cover the dynamics of flight, you push down in a stall to get lift on the wings.
Thats the beauty of Airbus though, take all the feeling / manual intervention from flying an aircraft.
Even when the pilot re-appeared he quickly realised the error of the crew he'd left in charge, alas all too late.Official MR B fan club, dont go............................0 -
How have we got from a dead hag to aircraft regulations ?0
