She never defeated the IRA. Remember the hunger strikers.

They came off second best, surely?
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

Perhaps we should all go out and buy Horst Wessel on Hitlers Birthday or some denegrating r n b or rap music on polly toynbees birthday, and see how long it lasts before the bbc slap a ban on AirPlay.

Pathetic misjudgement by the BBC - their role is to report the news not try to make it.

As even a Maggie apologist on "Question Time" explained, we can think of the wicked witch of the East as the communist system, brought to its knees by Reagan & Thatcher out competing it.

Of the three Liberty had out competed threadbare Equality & Fraternity.

Never mind all the leftie councils will be able to put on "wizard" as their panto for Xmas this year, if they have not already signed a deal with some panto promoter

As long as a group, however small, use violence to intimidate the masses. Then they'll never be peace.

At least Baroness Thatcher had the courage of conviction of her views to press for change in a constructive manner. The ballot box ultimately decides a politicians fate.

Thatcher hadn't a clue how to deal with northern Ireland.
She tried to win the war by military means and that didnt work.

She refused the prisoners political status .That lead the the hunger strike in which ten men died ,and then she gave then five off the six things they had asked for including wearing their own clothes. So why didnt she do that earlier .

The hunger strikes had major repercussions outside the prison .
The sinn fein support increased ,Bobby Sands was elected MP
and the oath in the house off parliament was changed to keep sinn fein out .The original oath swore Allegiance to parliament the new/present oath swears Allegiance to the Queen .She decided sinn fein should not be heard on TV or radio ,so actors where used to repeat what they said .
Her policies increased sinn fein support ,now they are the second largest party in Northern Ireland.

To you have a link for that please Old Git? Wikipedia seems to think that there is a choice under the Parliamentary Oaths Act of 1866 and the Oaths Act 1978 of how you swear your allegiance.

Let's face it, if you don't agree the Queen should be Head of State then you should be a revolutionary, not an elected member of Parliament. Members of the left wing of the Labour Party apparently get around this (rather childishly) by crossing their fingers behind their backs as their swear the Oath. How their constituents can trust a person to represent them that takes an Oath so lightly I don't understand.

You seem to have left out mention of the Birmingham pub bombing, Brighton, Warrington, Coventry, London and other relevant things.

It also meant we had a few less murdering ira to worry about and it polarised sinn feinn to such an extent that the political sinn feinn party became possible. The remaining hardline ira are no but a fragment of their former self. All helped significantly by mo Mowlam, who together with jack straw and tony Benn are the only three Labour MPs I respected.
