I don't think any conservative I know would be as in dignified to celibrate his death no matter how villified he will be judged by history.

Are you really saying you can tell how 'nice' someone is by whether they vote labour or conservative?

A truly sad day for Britain.

Thatcher was one of the two greatest PM's in history.

You should probably avoid the internet. Leftie, rightie etc etc. makes no difference - the direction of this car crash of a thread was easy to predict.

When Gordon Brown pops his clogs the resulting thread will be identical.

To be fair, regardless of what you thought of either of them and whether you loved or hate either, Brown was a non-entity of a politician compared to Thatcher. He'll go down in history as an irrelevant footnote who never managed to win an election either to lead his party or his country.
  • As a wife of a serving member of the forces at the time I remember things slightly differently.
It saddens me to say it but the UN is a toothless guard dog. It can seldom get it's act together to agree, let alone act, effectively on anything.
I wonder if you would have the same opinion if you had been living on the Falklands at the time?

What so I conduct foreign policy because of a couple of hundred people. I think not. We could intefere in many more areas of the world than we already are-and much more worthy.

Bellicose wars to boost Thatchers' electoral chances just don't suit me. The Argentinians would have given a free plane ride home. Not worth the loss of life.

    Who was the other one?

Whilst I certainly don't agree with everything that Mrs Thatcher did- particularly at the time!- she was a politican whose views and policies had real substance. I wish today's politicians believed in something as well, rather than just "how can I get re-elected".

    R.I.P.

    Winston Churchill.

Wars are never worth the loss of life but while people insist on playing politics (of any party) you will always have wars.
So, the Falkland islanders, because they were few in number. would be below your concern? Minorities aren't worth worrying about?
That sounds like a stance much further to the right than Thatcher ever took.
