  • I successfully haggled a deal with TalkTalk after reading this site, and checking for their latest deal (Simply Broadband at 2.50 per month plus line rental)

I was paying 7.50 for b/b Essentials, plus an extra 5.50 for Anytime Calls boost, and had just come to the end of a pre-paid yearly line rental, so I called and requested a MAC

Initially I was offered a 2.00 per month discount for a year on my current package - so I'm glad I checked the web first, as I was able to affect puzzlement that the 'deal' being offered actually worked out more expensive than their standard one available to all, which would offer me all my current services... I politely requested my MAC again, saying I'd have to consider her offer, and was put on hold.

2 minutes later, on return, I was offered a ' special deal for loyal customers like yourself...' of free line rental for a year, meaning I now pay 8.00 per month for unlimited broadband and anytime calls. Result!
  • I've got the full sky package that includes tv, broadband, multiroom, 2 hd boxes and phone. I have always found Sky receptive to 'deals' providing you can get through to cancellations. I have been with Sky 12 years and annually negotiate discounts and free services, to date I have never paid extra for new boxes, routers etc.
This January my bill went up to £106 per month, I decided to get an equivalent quote from Virgin ( through their online chat facility on their website), they quoted me a deal that was better than Sky ( however i never had any intention to leave because I like the Sky service). Armed with this information I rang sky and calmly told them I was struggling financially and wished them to beat the Virgin offer. I also told them I didn't want to downgrade. Initially the advisor offered me £9 off a month, he asserted no other offers were available and all supervisors/ managers would offer the same deal! I told him that it was unfortunate I would have to cancel my subscription. Then I was put through to another advisor! Here I was offered a new Sky hub, and a new 12 month contract where I would pay £66 for the first month, £86 for the next 9 months and £96 for final 2 months! A saving off £240!
    Remember offers are there!

Just phoned sky to take up deal offered at the weekend of £21 instead of £27. Was offered a deal of paying £15.50 instead of £27, yes please and thank you very much. Phoned virgin media upgraded bb and got rid of anytime calls now paying Total £218 instead of £468. Thank you very much. Just waiting to get bt sports now in march for £12 instead of the £15 offered by bt.
    ..
  • I've been thinking about ditching VM since my monthly cost went up to more than £70 a month.

On the realisation that I don't actually watch live TV I decided to find out how much it would be to cancel just the TV part and was told that phone and broadband alone costs £46.64 pcm NOT including call charges.

A quick bit of looking around and I was all set to go with BT (£23.99 for the first 6 months, £31.99 pcm thereafter, £50 Sainsburys voucher and via Quidco £100 casback.) on an 18 month contract.

As such I called VM to give notice and was offered to keep the Medium TV package and TiVo box, Unlimited landline calls, 1000 minutes to mobiles, 50MB broadband (currently 30MB) on a 12 month contract. Paying upfront for the year equates to £24 pcm.

    Oh go on then!!!! :D

I was coming to the end of my contract with TalkTalk and was only paying £3.75 per month which was about to double to £7.50. Despite there being no cheaper deal out there, even with the imminent increase, I simply phoned TalkTalk and asked for my MAC code. Not only did they agree not to increase the cost of my Broadband package, they actually reduced it to £2.50 a month saving me £60 annually.:j
  • I managed to get 22% off my existing Sky deal for the next 12 months.
I've been meaning to do this for months and have still some wriggle room if I decide to get rid of the HD option - that would save a total of 39%.
    RESULT!!:j
    Thank you.
  • I've been a Sky customer for six years - phoned up to ask what they would do to keep me on, and they said I'd have to actually leave.

    So I'm leaving.
  • Just had a chat with Sky and asked to cancel so we move to TalkTalk on reduced rate. The man who couldn't take anything off the £60 a month bill, put us through to a man who can suddenly reduce it to £36.

Quite a long-winded exercise to haggle with Talk Talk, got quote with Sky, eventually settled with price match to Sky, £10 rebate in respect of time taken, and a new replacement broadband router (nothing wrong with old one, but it's old!). Talk Talk essentials (without TV), value line rental £126 up-front, broadband and talk £21 for year, £20 credit!
