Had some success with Sky in the past RE: getting price reductions.

Would much rather they would offer a good service from the start though, opposed to having to wrestle with them for it.

    Hi,
I just tried haggling with VM and it all went horribly wrong and i've cancelled. My OH is going to go mad!!! Any advice please??

You will be just fine...they'll call you back, don't worry.

When they call you back, that's when you need to be ready to say exactly what you want and what price you're willing to pay (be reasonable).
  • Plusnet - Got their new customer offer

Saw a Plusnet offer of 12 months at £2.50 for unlimited broadband from Plusnet for new customers and got angry as I pay £9.90 a month (plus line rental and have been with Plusnet over 2 years. Asked them for the offer. Naturally they said no. Said I was thinking of leaving and they offered an 18 month contract at £2.50 for first 6 months. This was better than I had, but still rubbish.

Looked around and found an offer from Primus with same benefits I currently have (free weekend and evening calls, unlimited broadband). Could get this for £14 per month including line rental (if line rental paid in advance). Requested Primus to switch and contacted Plusnet. They immediately offered the new customer contract of £2.50 per month for broadband (£11.49 line rental with prepayment). So 1p per month less than Primus and half what I was currently paying. It was easy - no haggling needed, but I would have gone and they knew it.

Tried to haggle been a customer since 2005 and pay over £100 a month, they offered me a loyalty bonus of £5 knowing that in February they will add a line rental charge of £5.99 CRACKING, so much for being a loyal customer!
However if I cancel and my partner joins as a new customer they can get the half price for 6 months...where is the logic??

I've just finished haggling with BT. I was paying £15,95 for broadband with a ridiculous speed of less than 3mbps. That included evening and weekend calls. I pay my line rental up front which was about to come to an end. That has gone up to £141.00 per year but still a big saving on monthly/quarterly price. I now get broadband for £7.65 plus £5 a month for all calls including 0845/0870. £12.65 per month now. Hang up after 59 mins and redial. Also included are half price calls to mobiles @6p per minute plus a connection charge of 15p.
Only try for a deal when your current contract is up for renewal though as they wont let you break the current one.
Result:T:rotfl:laughing all the way to the bank.
  • Lost my job in December (planned end of contract) and haven't walked into another one, so I called Sky today and said "calling to haggle - lost my job but want to stay with you" and exemplified that a new customer would pay nearly £10 less than I am right now for the same package.

Managed to get my cost reduced from an average of £75 to a fixed £56.90 triple play by agreeing to 12 months line rental and broadband, and dropping the TV package down one step. Since I'm completely happy with the telephone and Fibre broadband, a 12 month golden handcuff is painless.

Martin is right, don't be afraid to ask, and, as importantly in my case, don't be afraid to tell the company why you are haggling and beat them down with their own figures.

This haggle saves me over £230 in a year. :j
  • Hi all
Am thinking of phoning Sky to threaten to leave as I have a really old sky box that I have to keep unplugging because it freezes and I am no longer under contract.
I could switch to Virgin as I already have phone/BB with them so my question is this: if I cancel with Sky but then change my mind and call them within the 31 days period to 'cancel my cancellation' - does this lock me into a new 12 month contract?

    Many thanks in advance:-)

Sky Broadband and Phone Line Only.

Paying £25.40 a month for unlimited BB and Weekend Phone calls. New customers could pay £20.40 a month, so really unhappy. Rang to cancel, was offered the £20.40 per month, still unhappy as I was better off cancelling and going with Quidco etc.

Was offered £17.40 per month, for 12 months. Pretty much matches the Tesco Offer we could not get. Really happy with the service too, and will look to upgrade to TV whenever.
  • Sky success...

One of the moved O2 broadband customers but with Primus for line renta... Called Sky about 'TalkTalk deal' and after a little theatrical talking I got
12 months contract @ £12.50/month made up of
    Free line rental
    £5 for anytime calls
    £7.50 for unlimited broadband
    Free router
    £40 bill credit

So that works out at £9.16/month...
    Smashing!
  • Always one never to accept the ticket price is what one has to pay, set out this afternoon to buy a new bed.
At our 3rd. Retailer - Paul Simon of Maidstone got an excellent deal. The banter - which is what it was as we were all having a 'jolly' time - went on for about 30 mins.
At the end we got a package of Bed base/frame, headboard and mattress all at £250 below their SALE price. I was told that delivery was another £39.50, which I baulked at badly. Result ? We did a deal and I now will pay a big zero, zilch, nuffink for that. So my total savings were just under £300. I thought this was 'reasonable'
I renewed my car insurance last week (Previously with Privilege and they quoted a renewal of £278). Went onto search site and took out a same spec. policy with Privilege for £226.
So don't take what they offer ! :T
