Presume you also have an alert badge advising that you have medical oxygen on board, so really shouldn't be questioned at all. It must be awful to have people looking and muttering all the time and feeling the need to justify yourself when you really shouldn't have to.
  • - display the badge at all times in any disabled bay, regardless of where that bay is
    - no badge displayed - give them stick - and report them - anyone, any age, any-time, no apologies
    - badge displayed - no one other than those authorised, has any right to ask - if they do - give them stick - anyone, any age, any-time, no apologies

i am blind, bit inlike many blind people, the outward appearance of my eyes is normal. i think people get the impression that i am stupod rather than blind! anyway thats beside the point ....

the only time we ever use a disabled bay, is when it is particularly busy, and would be dangerous to cross a car park. in the occasions that we do use one, i feel guilty because although i have a blue badge, i am physically as fit as a flea. ive never been questioned by anyone ... or maybe i just havent seen the dirty looks ;)

Got to disagree there, I was using these spaces when my dad was getting over heart surgery and wanted to get out and about a bit, but was really struggling to move about.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

Anyone awarded the BB should be loud and proud to use it, with equality. There are no sub divisions of disability and no one has more or less rights than others. One leggers, children on portable O2, or those who can perambulate three or even twenty miles, all have that same entitlement, its your hard won right. No one more than the other - all equal.

    - disagreement is ok !
    - you should have asked for and would have been awarded a temporary badge
    - without the badge I would have reported you without any compunction whatsoever
    - and I would do so today in the same circumstances
    - everyone can, and will happily find a reason for using a BB parking space without entitlement
    - you are just one more of thousands every day that have a pseudo reason but no legal rights
    - nothing personal my friend but I would report you, get a badge or stay out of the bays

i do agree, but on a personal level ... i would rather leave the bay for someone with physical difficulties, that possibly need the extra room that the bay provides.

id hate to think that because i used the last bay, someone else had needed to go home because there was insufficient room for them to get out of their car

I alway's give the same answer when someone say's "you don't look disabled"
I reply "and you don't look stupid".

Let it go over your head and I hope your baby improves. Jim.

    - pardon the pun, but it depends how you 'see it'
    - your BB award was because you have mobility and care needs
    - your independence is as liable to be rendered as ineffective as someone with severe walking / wheeling difficulties

NOTE : The simple act as nannytone states of "getting out of their car" infrequently mentioned on these boards but is critical to independence.

  • Always seems to be older people who question the use of a blue badge. I'm 43, served in the Army till 7 yrs ago when medically discharged. I have severe spinal compression and osteoarthritis in my knees which need replacements but I am to young to have them. I also have 2 boys with severe Autism and a third with severe ADHD. I have nothing but grief from elderly people, who all walk without aides where as I need sticks or a rollator to mobilize.

I would give anything to swap with someone with better health and even more so for my children. It is so hard to look after young disabled when you are disabled yourself and getting dirty looks to boot.:(
