Finally Snapped Today - Disabled Bay Parking!
Comments
-
It has a hell of a lot to do with vehicles, especially ones with private plates we have found as everyone assumes that you think you are above the rules and are parking illegally when you have "footballer" type vehicles despite displaying a valid BB.
We have had so many incidents over the years of being accused of not being entitled to park in disabled bays just because my husband worked over 70 hours per week and his one pleasure was his expensive vehicles and it was always especially bad with his Range Rovers etc.
The strange bit is that all the people who questioned our parking rights could always walk unaided yet they choose to question someone in a wheelchair's disability when surely it should be the other way round?
I agree with J that if they asked openly and honestly but leave off the snide looks and underhand comments0 -
Just make sure the badge is on display - it's there to stop people thinking you are trying it on.0

I would have slapped the cantankerous old bag in the face with your blue badge.0

Reminds me of a lad I used to know. Mid-twenties, generally fit and well looking, driving a modified car, as you could imagine the busy-bodies loved questionning him about his use of disabled spaces.
His normal answer involved taking his prosthetic leg off and waving it in their face. :rotfl:Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Blue badges aside, think how it is for us who care for those with none visible disabilities (ie mental health illnesses)...........................

The way I see it is, people who question, are doing disabled people a favour, because the next person they challenge may not have a blue badge.
If people are too worried to ask anyone who parks in a disabled bay whether they're entitled to it because of their reaction, then anyone can use them knowing they'll get away with it.
I wouldn't ever get upset if someone asked whether I was entitled when I take Dad out - I'd happily show them the badge with his picture on it. The next person they talk to might be someone using the bay when they shouldn't.0 -

In a perfect world I wouldn't get upset either but last week I found out my baby needs another heart operation so feelings are a little fraught. I don't get upset by many things, but this really did ruin my day. Coming out of Alder Hey after receiving this news last week and I had people staring at me as I got in the car with my baby as I was in a disabled space, god help anybody that day who dare make a snidey comment.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

I never mind if someone asks me politely if I'm entitled to park in a Blue Badge bay - I've done that myself on occasion. It's the muttered asides or aggressive comments that are upsetting.:([0

Yes that's what upset me, the comment just loud enough for me and a few others to hear it, but not actually asking me direct. Man up and come and ask!!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Not sure about doing me a favour! She did make me feel upset even though I have a right to park there, having a disabled child isn't easy without having to explain yourself to perfect strangers. If people must take it upon themselves to become self appointed traffic wardens/police officers they could at least understand that blue badges are not just for people in wheelchairs!
If people ask me instead of staring I would would explain, its the staring, whispering and snide comments that upset me.
OP, did you know that you only need to show your badge when in council controlled car parks or streets? they are not applicable in any other car park and you dont have to show it to anyone if you dont want to.;)Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0
