Finally Snapped Today - Disabled Bay Parking!

Suppose she'd needed to use the loo while you were in the shops?
If I hadn't locked her in, I'd have been a teensy bit annoyed if she'd wandered off while I was gone! Even if I'd left her the keys, I don't suppose she could have worked out how to lock it.
But from a distance pov, she wasn't actually too far from the shops.
More seriously, if that was likely to have been an issue, I'd have been prepared to use the disabled bay, but AFAIK none of the shops we were near have loos, she'd have had to go to one of the cafes which we weren't parked very near."As long as the journey is being made for you, and you are in the car with your badge, you can travel in any car."
I'm sorry, but when she's in my car I'm going to continue to park in a considerate way if she's not getting out! As I said, if she'd told me before I'd driven across the car park that I was going into M&S on my own, I'd have left the car where it was!!!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

"If you cause an obstruction or danger, or use the badge while you are still in the car, this can count as misuse."
Actually, that information is given in the section about where you can park (double yellows etc) so I'm not sure that covers the case I'm thinking about.
When we go shopping, my husband often doesn't know whether he'll feel up to coming until we get to the supermarket but, once I've gone in, he may need the loo while I'm out of the car. I also tend to pop my head out to see if he's OK if I'm taking longer than expected, which I can't do if he's the other end of the car park. If that's abusing the system then it's only in a minor way and I'd be prepared to take the consequences. Sometimes you have to use a bit of common sense in these things.:)0 -

To my mind, those are good reasons for using the parking spaces.
The abuse comes from people who know perfectly well when they park that only the abled bodied person is going to leave the car. If there were masses of unused disabled parking bays, as some people think, it wouldn't matter but that isn't the case in many places I go to.0 -

Thanks, that's what I mean about using a bit of common sense. I dislike the abuse of disabled parking spaces as much as anyone and, like you, occasionally politely challenge those who seem to be doing so.0 -
To be fair I'd be pretty annoyed too and I work in low vision. It's hard to stop a wheelchair and if your own pride stops you from carrying a symbol cane to alert wheelchair users of your impairment then you can't get annoyed when we get irked that you've walked into us. Wheelchair users are not psychic! If you don't want to carry a symbol of your disability then you should shop off peak.
but some people choose to shout and hurl abuse, and that isnt necessary.
dont i also have a right to walk without being run over?
as i have previously said ... i have carried a show stick, but my eyes appear normal and it causes more trouble than it's worth as people assumme i am 'faking' and will deliberately walk in fromt of my just to see if i am blind or not!
also this was a few years ago, when i had some useful sight, and on the whole was managing.
i have also been run into by a motorised scooter whilst STANDING STILL in a queue.
was that my fault too?0 -

However, that was an official who has a legal right to inspect the badge.
I fail to see then what business it is of yours or anyone elses to approach a person and demand to know if they are or are not eligible for the use of the badge.
Unless you are one of the listed officials who has a legal right to see the badge then personally yoou should keep your nose out of other peoples business. If you believe someone is abusing the badge then report them for that 'offence' if you are so inclined to do so to the local authority.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

Thinking about this last night after being asked by a policeman to show my badge after I parked on a double yellow.

When I've challenged someone it hasn't been anything to do with use/abuse of a Blue Badge - it has been simply to enquire whether they need to use the disabled space they have just parked in when they have shown no sign of either badge or difficulty; ie when they just drive into the space and get out of the car without displaying a badge and just walk briskly off.[0 -

Because we're not islands - we're all part of society. This attitude is what leads to a person who has collapsed in the street being stepped over rather than helped; a child being bullied by a gang being ignored by passing adults; a woman in a train carriage being ignored when asking for help because a man is pestering her.
We have a responsibility to each other and, if that means someone asking if I should be parking in a disabled bay, I'm glad they've shown an interest because it could put off others who shouldn't be parking there.

This would be pointless because, unless a police officer or traffic warden actually saw them, it wouldn't be taken any further.
A successful society has to police itself over minor issues. If none of us care about our neighbours, one day we will need help and find no-one cares about us.0 -

You misunderstand me. - I'm not challenging someone's right to have a badge but someone's right to park in a disabled space.0 -
