HDTV doesn't work with anything unless you have an HDTV decoder.
Freeview doesn't broadcast any HDTV signals at all, so even with a decoder you can't see anything in HDTV on Freeview.
Sky do broadcast a limited number of HDTV programs, but to see them you will need both the standard SKY box plus an HDTV decoder.
You may have noticed that none of the above is exactly advertised in any shop on the High Street. TV's are shown to be "HDTV ready". Ready for the point when you have bought a decoder, and then there are HD channels being broadcast.
In the same way that most TV sets now include a Freeview decoder, in 12-18months time they will also include an HDTV decoder.
Not exactly true, you do not need to have a SKY+ box as well as an HD decoder. All you need is the SKY HD decoder which is the HD version of the SKY+. All "HD ready" screens do something called upscaling which improves the picture from a standard source and enables it to be displayed on the higher resolution screen, usually this results in a superior picture (but not as good as HD) I believe the BBC are planning to launch BBC HD on Freeview, so it may only be a matter of time before we will need an HD Freeview adapter/decoder.
Whatever you decide to buy, make sure it has at least 1 HDMI socket (some now have 2 or 3) Make sure you also do some research, I can recommend AVForums for that.0 -
Just bought one of these from Evesham's clearance shop on eBay for £250 plus a tenner for a bracket and free P&P.
