Why are people bothering with analogue TV's ? I'm waiting to all these analogue TV's have disappeared. Seems so pointless buying a TV with an analogue tuner. Chances are I'll use it with a PVR freeview box but having freeview built-in means I can record 2 channels on the PVR and watch a third on the TV. It also means that when the TV gets passed on to someone else it will just plug-in and work without and not need any extra boxes. Why oh why do the manufacturers keep making this junk?

How can you tell if an LCD TV with imbeded Freeview tuner is able to take the HD Freeview channels when they EVENTUALLY come?

I dont want to buy a 32" LCD with Freeview imbeded only to find that you need an external box to watch HD Freeview. I want this wall mounted in a bedroom with just a power and coax cable so no external boxes.
  • There are currently no plans for HD freeview, only a campaign to make it possible. If the government has their way freeview will stay as it is and they will sell of the frequencies.

The way I look at it at the moment is that a set with built-in freeview is the best value proposition. Because the current standard definition Freeview is likely to remain the standard TV service that replaces analogue for a long time to come. If a HD Freeview comes along the standard version will still be broadcast for a long time to come. Unlike analogue that will be switched off for good soon. You can't cover every new possibility, but it seems stupid buying something you know for sure will be obsolete in a very short time. Only expensive sets looking to stand out from the crowd would have HD freeview upgrade options. Seeing as how it doesn't exist yet manufacturers can not be certain how it will be implemented, so I can't see that anyone is going to bother with it until there is a reasonable chance that it will really happen.
