I'm home now and couldn't find maxims ??? maybe they don't have a sign?? it doesn't look too good imho i spoke to a mate who sells tv's in that area and hes never heard of em (not necessarily a problem) but he said the prices on some of the philips stuff was too low so could be graded(returns). I'm guessing its near jewson's but couldn't see it and @ 17.00 you would expect a courier companies van to be sat outside collecting these cheap tv's btw whos tried the land line? seems to have a recorded message with no ring tone ????
    be happy!

I got a great 32" lcd from Tevion on Sunday ... it was on offer from Aldi and has a great spec twin HDMI sockets, twin Scarts with freeview and a three year guarantee for 380 quid, they had 30 sets in my store but I think they were sold within the hour.

fantastic quality via the X box or a DVD upscaler ....can't wait for more regular HD broadcasts

Our local tescos has (this morning) a 32inch HD TV with Freeview for a pound or two below £400. I think the make is a Technika but when I checked on the tesco website it appears to be more online (£479) and out of stock unless its a slightly different model. http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.200-9023/btnResultSort.x%3d367/btnResultSort.y%3d519.aspx

Its true you could buy a £340 tv and a £25 freeview box but if hanging on the wall it's a pain trying to find a suitable place to put the extra box.
  • I think the model number on the bush at maxim's is Bush IDLCD32TV006, they sell this in currys and dixons for £379. If anyone can find a review please let me know!

    Word of warning about Pixmania!

Before you all rush off and spend at Pixmania please heed a warning based on personal experience.
In the UK the distance selling regs state a company can only charge you for an item when they are ready to dispatch it. HOWEVER Pixmania (not based in the UK) are not subject to this rule. As such I previously purchased a printer from them which went out of stock before the order was fullfilled. They charged my card and then took 45 days to send the printer. I tried and failed to cancel the order with them.

Basically my advice would be not to order from Pixmania or if you do perhaps phone and check they do have the stock before ordering as they're not very co-operative when it came to customer service.
This was my own experience and I cannot claim it to be a regular case however it has stopped me and my close friends/family from ever buying from them again.
  • Yes these deals are cheap, but when you are looking at a reasonable screen size of 32" or over then you really have to spend a bit more otherwise it's a false economy. The difference in a Sony 32" LCD to a Matsui (or whatever cheap make) 32" LCD is enormous. Yes there is a large gap in price too but you really do get what you pay for. The same goes for larger 42"+ plasma's, don't touch the cheap ones, they will only disappoint, go for a HD Panasonic. If you're after a small 15"-19" HD LCD then go for a cheap make by all means especially if its for a bedroom or kitchen for example, not much point in paying more really.

    What's the deal?

Try to get one with an 'HDMI' connection: While you can get an HD picture through the same type as leads as current TVs use (known as composite and DVI connections) most future HD boxes will use a special type of connector called an 'HDMI connection', so its worth checking for this. All of the TVs above have an HDMI connector.

Just a point about connections. Component (3 wires), not composite (1 wire) is what's needed for HD. HDMI is the preferred method of connecting say a SKY HD box to the TV.

OK cheap is good but cheap and poor quality is not.

Who would buy a computer monitor that produced poor colour it's the same with LCD tvs what is the refresh rate what is the warranty what about dead pixils.

I had a Panasonic that was rubbish red was more orange and no detail in blacks got it replaced with a Philips which had a number of dead pixils after 3 weeks paid a little more and got a samsung which is on from 6am to 1am not a single problem.

Step one check them out in reviews on the internet.
