MONEY MORAL DILEMMA: Should Hilary buy Chelsea's fags for her?

Having just lost a friend to lung cancer from passive smoking, this is straightforward to me.
I would never buy cigarettes for anybody - there is no financial argument about it.Everything in moderation..............including moderation..............0 -

Is "fag" in this context (ie Hilary being an American) the American-English definition or the British-English definition of the word?
MikeDon't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to p*** us off.0 -
i am a non smoker
i think Hillary should buy whatever the amount you are allowed to bring back and what is convenient to bring back but souhld then tell Chelsea that she should never smoke infront of the infant (i believe she should have done that anyway)0 -
For me this is simply a matter of principle.
I don't smoke, and I hate smoking. I would not buy cigs for myself, and certainly not for anyone else.
If Chelsea wants to save money, she should give up smoking. Simple!
Smoking is not a life essential, and so should be the first thing given up if money is an issue (even if it is not)0 -
BUY DA FAGS!!!! Might as well save her some cash. Just try and encourage her NOT to smoke in the house where her son is.:rolleyes:0

In a few year's time, when Chelsea is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, how is Hilary going to feel, knowing that she actively contributed to her friend's imminent death and the orphaning of her child (who, incidentally may well also have contracted cancer as she is subjected to the passive smoke?) Maybe she won't care, but I suspect she will wish she hadn't bought them.0

I, too, dislike smoking and it makes me sick if I get too close to it. But, hey... a friend is a friend and if she wants to smoke in front of her kid, why not...
It only started being dangerous about 15 years ago!!! Most of us were raised quite healthily in smoke filled houses before these new fangled dangers were invented.
By the way - I don't have friends that smoke. It's a character flaw as far as I'm concerned and I have no interested in druggies, drunks and other wastrels... and that includes smokers.
Don'tknow where you got the idea that smoking was only dangerous 15 years ago.
I was around in 1952 when King George 6th died of lung cancer. His daughter Our present Queen Elizabeth 2nd blamed it all on smoking. If only all concerned had taken notice. Maybe the goverments right through the next 50 odd years had done something about it??? Who knows where we might have been now? Perhaps cigarette companies Banned?0 -
Absoloutly not! Assisted suicide is still illegal here.0

Buy them & save the money.
Leave the Morals to the MoralSavingExpert.com board.
From the comments already posted it sounds as if such a website would be oversubscribed in a rush of sanctimonious condescension.0 -
Buying cigarettes abroad is a false economy...the daughter will just end up smoking much more if she knows she has a 'cheap' stockpile to get through. My friend buying me a carton from France that I thought would last for months was what elevated me from a 'social' to 'full time' smoker. There is a reason there is so much tax on fags in this country...to stop people smoking so much!0
