These are the felt bags/pencil cases I have bought but need a second (and third) opinion please.

SHould I just 'patch' a small motif on by stitching a border round to add it to the bag or stitch it direct using waste canvas. Not sure if the small motif would get lost on the bag and the white/cream aida would make the design stand out more. What do you think please.

    Thanks

  • Sorry Emma can't help with the patterns, and I would patch the design on I do think I would get lost without a cream / white background

I did think of doing some sort of band design for the bigger ones as they are more like pencil cases.

TMIF dressmakers daughter is seriously stunning!!!!

Emma, im sure i have that bookmark somewhere, ill have a root round if no one else finds it for you first.
the only 'waste' canvas ive used was a plastic dissolvable type that came with a jubilee heart cushion cover kit the other year that worked quite well and was on felt. i agree with what was said about maybe sewing patches of aida on with your design on as that looks really effective and the design seems to perhaps stand out more then it would if stitched on directly. also it might be easier to stitch the design first then sew it on rather than struggling to stitch through the open zip.

sorry havent been in for a while, i felt like i had nothing to contribute when i wasnt stitching tinkerbell, but i did manage an hour the other night so ive snuck back

Soulie - I mentioned in an earlier post about having tons of anchor threads to put onto bobbins and I was going to wind them by hand. I can remember having a winder years ago and when I got it back out I couldn't remember how to work the damned thing :o. Does it give a neater result than winding by hand??? This was the type of thing I had.

That's the same type that I have, only mine is pink. I've found winding by hand is much faster though, and because I have a lot to do I will do them by hand instead, and I haven't noticed a difference in neatness other than by hand it seems to wind on tighter, whereas with the winder the thread is a little looser on the bobbins, and I do prefer them to be tighter. Hope that helps :D

  • tmif - dressmakers daughter is gorgeous. Will have to wait until we win the Lotto though I think. :D

Soulie and Maria - thanks for comments re winder. Don't think I will bother hunting mine out - will just stick to doing it by hand. Would love to sort all the threads out during 2013 - might add this to my challenges ;).

Maria - love bella and boo. Backstitch definitely brings it alive.

Tiny bit of stitching done early this morning - might get page 5 finished over the weekend and I will post a pic then.

Had hoped to get out and cut lawns but it looks a bit overcast now and to be honest I don't think I can really be bothered. :)
