    Hi everyone.

June is a four week month for us so I'm going to go for £152 which gives us £38 a week. I would really like to have it down to £35 a week by the end of the year so I will keep reducing it a bit each month. This is for four of us and cat and needs to include all food, cleaning stuff, toiletries and pet food.
Tried a monthly meal plan last month (with a bit of flexibility in it) and it worked really well for us so I'm going to have another go.

  • I think its time I got on board. I can be brilliant on main shops with regards to sticking to the budget, but its popping out for milk that seems to cost the earth and that's what needs to stop.

I've got to be strict as I'm a mature student without funds over the summer months and have a DS to occupy over the school holidays. Thrifty will become my middle name

Put me down for £160 please

Just popped in for a bit of a catch-up and good to see everyone still going strong (lots of familiar names and a few new ones). I did not stick to my May proportion of my annual budget but not irretrievable thanks to the smoothing of the annual budget - just need to maintain the discipline! Got my Mum arriving today for a few days and DS coming Thursday/Friday but going to try and keep control.

We are going to give the 5/2 diet a go this week, as it is half term. Lots of little leaves growing in the garden mean homegrown "salads" are coming in so that will help. Just milk, eggs and fruit needed I think.

    Good luck everyone

    Hi everyone

No spends over the last couple of days. I went to friends' for dinner on Saturday and my parents' on Sunday, so haven't had to cook for a couple of days :)

Having my Asda delivery this afternoon instead of the usual yesterday (as I was away yesterday and I'm off work today anyway) so will pop on later to update spends.

Sorry for the multiple posts, but I was just looking at my spreadsheet and realised that I started the grocery challenge in June 2012 - so a year ago now :j

AND I added up how much we spent this year, and how much we would have likely spent if we'd have continued on our old budget - and even with reducing quite gradually to start with we've saved an estimated £1,200 this year - all thanks to you lovely people on this forum :D

So thanks everyone for all the posts, hints, tips and encouragement :D

The 5:2 diet is really easy to stick to and good for the GC! I've lost 9lbs so far. Good luck to you.

87.08 to start June with. That's a 2 week shop with a smaller top up shop of fresh next week. I love this thread! X

A bit more stocking up and some great bargains today. I had a lot of vouchers that expired on the 31st so I needed to use them up before then.
