    Hello *waves* :)

Was pointed over here after a post on the Marriage and Families board about how we spent £817 over May in the supermarkets

I am reining it in this month and am going for a target of £440 for June, which roughly equates to an average weekly shop of £100 plus £10 for milk, bread and and any other top ups.

We've had an online shop this morning for the week and spent £94.69 which includes delivery of £6.

We're a family of 6, two adults and four kids under 10, packed lunches for two every week.

Wow thats rather a lot to reduce personally I would only have tried
to reduce by a couple of hundred, but really wish you well and hope you manage it.

Did my weekly shop today. Only went to Aldi and B&M but still went over my budget! Came to £49.30, whereas my weekly budget is £45!

Looking at the positives, the freezer is full, and I shouldn't need to buy any more laundry products or toiletries this month, so the next few shops should just be top ups - bread & milk, salad stuffs & dog food and that should be about it.

And the other positive, of course, is that it's nothing like as much as I would have spent had I still been going to Sainsburys
Debt free since December 2015. It can be done

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the weekend.

Morri$ons this morning for fruit & veg and spent £8.17 brought cabbage, carrots, grapes, strawberries, melon & some lemons.
Grandchildren are big fruit eaters (at the moment) and we have said instead of taking them sweets up at the weekend they can have some fruit which they were happy about. Wont be buying the ready prepared pots of it though as £2.00 for 7-8 grapes, 4-5 bits of melon and a couple of slices of pineapple is ridiculous. Will buy it and prepare it at home, put it into nice pots and take it up to them when we go. Much more :money: hope to do some baking tomorrow but if not will do it at beginning of week.

Cant wait to see this new kitchen Florenceem - I bet it is lovely when its done and looking forwards to a photo or two.

I know I am getting excited about a new kitchen but I have only had one new before this time. :)
The one I had put in years ago was a diy job but this is being done by an independent kitchen fitter. This kitchen will see me out - unless of course - I have to move.

Must agree about the prepared pots I cringe when I see the price, my own 2 kids really didnt have sweets I had a craft stall on Birmingham market and used to get loads of reduced fruit at the end of the day. I think it paid off as their own kids now prefer fruit to sweets and stuff. Also for pots I used the plastic cups used to be 100 for 50p probably 1.00 now but still a good deal

    Hi can I join you?
I have been spending around £800 per month at the SM - 2-3 big shops per month and then £20-£30 3 or 4 times a week when I nip out to buy some wine and treats.

Anyway, I'm busy knocking the booze on the head and am on the alcohol thread hoping for 1 drinking day in June - down from drinking every day.
That should help with my grocery spend.
I don't know where to start on setting a target figure so I'm going to be quite generous and ease myself into this with £500 for June.
I've spent nothing today, scratch dinner from leftovers in the fridge and tomorrow is meat pie with some stewing steak and (heaven knows how old) left over roast beef from the freezer.
Back to school next week so I will have packed lunches to prepare, I plan spending my lunchbreaks looking for lunchbox bargains.
I have enough cheese tuna and ham in for sandwiches the first part of the week so after that I just need to get the "extras".

Look forward to being part of the club and picking up your ideas

£15.22 in Mr A on tinned stuff anf fruit thats cheaper there and then £4.70 in Mr S on a couple of bits I forgot to get earlier so total is already £41.12 but £4.86 saved in coupons and next weeks should be cheaper - I hope!

Homemade pastry a complete crumbly flop so I had to go out and but some for tonights quiche and tomorrows beef and veg pie.
Worse still 3 1/2 oz butter wasted. I'm not sure if I used too much water or not enough.
I bought a large frozen pack of pastry so that should last both meals and with some left over to make jam tarts.

While out I also bought the skimmed milk for the week 2 cartons for £3 - adults have skimmed, children have semi skimmed in our house. I also got carrots 1kg for 95 p eggs and a yoghurt. £10.50 altogether.

Petrol light has been on since yesterday so I'll need to get some, I use around £30 - £40 per month in petrol so I'll put in £30 and see if I can stretch it by doing a bit of additional walking.
I'll include petrol in my GC.

Welcome to all the new people; I am fairly new myself, starting a few times over the months but never seeing a whole month through. This time, I am going to stick with it, through good times and bad. And on this note.....

Just been through my bank statement and I have somehow got myself into a pickle this month and will be running very low by the month end :o So definitely a kick up the backside to seriously rein in the grocery expenditure and start living from the stores that I already have in.

I have mentioned to hubby that I will start making pack lunches for him from this Monday and he is happy with this. Need to explore some threads for lunch ideas so that he doesn't become bored.

Wishing you all a nice evening.

Did you make it by hand? I tried this recipe the other day http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/shortcrustpastry_1278 in the blender and honestly it was so quick and easy, and because you just add a tiny trickle of water until it suddenly just *gloops* into a ball it was almost impossible to misjudge the water. It didn't even crack round the edges which is definitely saying something for me. :rotfl:
