Did you make it by hand? I tried this recipe the other day http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/shortcrustpastry_1278 in the blender and honestly it was so quick and easy, and because you just add a tiny trickle of water until it suddenly just *gloops* into a ball it was almost impossible to misjudge the water. It didn't even crack round the edges which is definitely saying something for me. :rotfl:

I'll give it a go next time - I used Delias recipe - she usually never lets me down

Thank you Meg72 when you say that I could have spent 1200 but have only spent 900 in that time cheered me up no end. Guess its easy to focus on what haven't achieved but every saving each month we make is really good, eso when prices are going up so quickly! xx

I'm in for another month! I can't believe it's the June challenge already I've not paid a penny into my Christmas savings scheme yet, so I really do need to start with that...

I'm going for another £75 this month. I'm still on a mission to run my cupboards down, so think £75 is more than reasonable.

I went to the Butcher's today for the first time in years, and did think their meat was a decent price, but I was horrified by the butcher handling the raw meat, then handling the bag and my change without washing her hands  I felt like everything I touched was contaminated for hours after that... I will venture back, but I will venture back with hand wipes and a spare bag!

Hello and welcome to new people on here, I've only done this challenge three times so far, thanks to posts and support here I've made a big difference to my family's grocery bill, I like to absorb details of what people are planning, buying, cooking, eating, freezing and saving :) I know I have always been nosey and perhaps I need to get out more :)

I know it's early days for me but I had kept a spending diary for a few months and when I look at this time last year, can't believe how many times I was going to the shop and what expensive stuff I was buying without thinking really.

This month I want to really be serious about an £180 target, tonight we had roast chicken and I've saved enough meat for another meal tomorrow, this may not sound like rocket science but in days gone by I would have had packets of chicken breast for two nights in a row so am very happy to have been influenced by tales of 'rubber chicken' from this thread. I don't think two main meals from a £3 chicken is too bad.

Thanks all who run, maintain and contribute to this thread and for all the kindness you have shown me.

June last year I spent £450ish on groceries for the 3 of us and our rascal rescue Jack Russell so will have a real sense of achievement if I can stick to £180. My GC doesn't include petrol but am also taking small steps to save money there x

PS baked some cookies to welcome my daughters home from a school trip, they were disgusting (the cookies not my daughters :)) as I put far too much butter in. I'm such a rubbish baker. Funny though, they loved them so I was chuffed, they had them warm with ice cream.

:D Me too! She's normally my go to for anything I think I should really know how to cook, but don't. But I went for a change of recipe on a recommendation from a friend. Don't tell Delia!

    Morning all

I haven't updated in a while but have been keeping my receipts. My total is a jaw dropping £400! I am blaming my lack of control in having a Mr T extra open 6 minutes drive my house:o. I have spent on summer clothes, pjs and plants too but have excluded this from my total:o: 19 days left and 2 weekly shops left. Would love to come in on target but don't think I am skilled enough to do so. I do have a lot of vouchers to use for 600 points for £60 spend and a £5 gift card so am hoping next weeks shop comes in low.

I am we'll stocked up and have meal planned but have come to the conclusion that DH is sabotaging my meal planning:mad: yesterday lunch time we agreed I would make enchiladas for tea but he decided it was to hot for them so we ended up in marksies getting some new pots to go with the frozen shepherds pie he got last week but then decided he wasn't hungry when we got home so I ended up having a gammon steak from the freezer and he had a frozen pizza about 3 hours later. I had defrosted tortillas and GF wraps to make these so they will have to be Monday's tea and Tuesdays lunch. He is OK during the week because he gets home starving and I try and have tea ready soon after that apart from the days he wants a takeaway. If I ask him what he would like to eat to make the meal plan work he says he doesn't know.

A friend has recommended the butchers that is near the new mr t. 10 large chicken breasts for £10 sounds good to me as 1 will probably do the 3 of us.

A chicken joint today with all the trimmings, good thing about not doing the enchiladas yesterday is I will use the leftover chicken padded out with kidney beans in them on Monday.:)
