Maybe they are rude these days. But I will not be fobbed off with such rudeness. I will ring up and see what was wrong with me if I have not got the job.:beer:0

Don't ring and say "what's wrong with me" - ask for some feedback about your interview. They'll be able to give you pointers as to where you went wrong, and you 'll be able to apply this knowledge at your next interview (if you listen to them).******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0

Yes, you do that. Make sure you tell them how rude they are too. In fact, feel free to point out any failings you have found with them so far. As a HR Manager I love getting that kind of feedback. No really. Especially from cocky undergraduates who think they know better.0 -

I would never just leave people hanging and not knowing if I was a HR manager. It is not about knowing better but being a decent human being.
I will ask for feedback but I might still have got it yet.:beer:0 -

You honestly do think the world revolves around you, don't you? With your attitude you wouldn't get within 100 miles of an interview with me. Actually, make that 1000.
By the way, my husband is an archivist and librarian and is climbing very quickly to the top of his profession as we speak. He loves it. But then he has the right attitude and doesn't constantly rub people up the wrong way so is bound to succeed. I could give you lots of tips about getting in and getting on in an academic environment. But I won't.0 -
Phil, the right thing to do if you don't hear/haven't got the job, is to ring them and POLITELY ask for feedback. It may be that you didn't get the job just because someone else did better than you on the day..i.e. just keep tryig. OTOH, it may be that you didn't get it because of something you CAN do something about....i.e. get the appropriate skills in a voluntary capacity.
I don't want you to take this the wrong way, bur degrees do not guarantee you a decent job these days. The did 30 years ago, they don't now. Don't be too proud to take a menial job just to get some experience (any experience) in the workplace. You will almost certainly find that this is far more important than a 2:2 (or even a 2:1) degree. And before you start feeling bad about yourself, that applies to everyone, not just you.
I got an unclassified degree in my 30s (by choice, didn't take the honours course) and eventually got a job that I could use it in, although all the job spec asked for was GCSEs in Maths, English and Geography. You have to be prepared to start at the bottom - a degree does not guarantee that you go in straight away as Director, not these days, when the world and his wife have degrees in Peace Studies or Media Studies.
I hope I'm not being nasty, just realistic, and giving you the advice I would give to my own son.
Good luck, and hope you get the job.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I am sick to death of it all. My parents get on at me like hell for not having a good job or anything lined up. I have tried so so hard to get this job and the worst bit is the not knowing. It is so upsetting that I know I could start this flipping job tomorrow and be able to give a good go at it.
Is this all my life is going to be stuck here with parents like mine being a failure to them and a disappointment? It sounds a wonderful life.
I try to say upbeat but I would be so disappointed not to get this job.:beer:0 -

The only bad attitute I have is feeling so rubbish and frustrated at myself for not getting anywhere. I am other than that a caring a person who is willing to give my all to something I can enjoy.:beer:0 -
Phil, I am proud of my son for getting a part-time job in Matalan. I hope your parents would be glad whatever job you get (providing it's not illegal or immoral!).(AKA HRH_MUngo)
