I stopped watching BBC news at 21:33Z on 1982-05-03, BBC at 18:05Z 2012-09-15

Now have no TV, so the TV Tax can go their own way.

Wonder how long before the thugs from the BBC pop round

If you don't have a licence you will be pursued by the licencing authority.

If you get a summons the onus will be on you to prove that you don't or are incapable of watching live TV on that TV set/PC

    Keep us updated.

Possibly, although they are not called "the licensing authority", nor are they a Government agency, nor do they have much authority.

No - the onus will be on them to prove the allegation, just as it is with pretty much every other part of UK law.

    Yes, still no TV Tax.
    No visit either.

For a summons, I have to be breaking the law. It is for them to gather evidence I am breaking the law. Not the oter way round.

    Glad to keep you updated.

Do not believe the TV Tax myths perpetuated by the Bolshevik Broadcasting Commisariat. The detector van cannot detect you watching tv. It was always a myth.

On your last point, in the old days the detector van picked up the IF signal from the tuner, they used to radiate loads of RF. Probably not the case any more.

    Aaaaaaahrrrrr Aaaaaaahrrrrr Aaaaaaaaaaahrrrrr. Me laddy.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

No myth - it existed, but the fleet was retired when BT lost the contract. There are now handheld devices that do the same thing, however as with the previous scenario, the bulk of the staff were chasing unlicensed users based on paper returns (ie not a licenced address) rather than detection.

The licence allows you to receive terrestrial TV transmissions there is no requirement in Law for you to watch them. If you have a capable set, then you have to prove to a judge you hadn't been watching - which can be risky if you are not believed.
  • Point to a prosecution where an offender was detected by the Detector Van.

At long last Crapita, Tax Collector charged by the Bolshevik Broadcasting Commissariat has written to me. It has been filed as I am not breaking the law.

It says they are going to pay me a visit. Ask yourself a question if you pay this TAX, do you like to see the Tax you paid wasted?
