I trust all the anti-immigrant posters on here have their £137,000 cheque to the Treasury signed already.....:rotfl:

Looks like they released that a day early :)

If we were going to debate immigration rationally we would do things like accept that people have differing positions, either pro or con.

We would allow these people to express their view without being castigated as racist or Xenophobic. That's a bullying tactic.

There is no such thing as a 'standard immigrant'. Like any large group, some will be highly educated and highly driven. Some will not however.

Jobs are precious at the moment, and compared to some parts of mainland Europe UK is still a desirable place to live. We can afford to be choosy and cherry pick the best.

I bet he wishes he hadn't posted a link to such a shyhyte report now.

Of course at the time, he got over excited and couldn't wait to do the pigeon dance - puffing out his chest victoriously.

I wish people would stop picking on Hamish.

I know he's a silly boy and hasn't got a clue about anything but you must be nice to all MSEers regardless of their idiotic views.

    Absolutely spot on.

And I have no patience for bullies.

Well I see this thread has attracted the usual suspects, howling with indignation when the facts contradict their usual closed minded assertions.

    Excellent. :)

Y'see the problem here Hamish is that the "usual suspects" appears to be everyone else.

What do you think the article you have linked to adds to the debate? It is so vague that it is impossible to draw meaningful conclusions from it in my view (other than that the numbers make no sense). All you have done so far is post a vague article which says "immigration good" and then called anyone who points out that the article doesn't look that reliable a racist, xenophobe or closed minded. Why bother starting this thread if that's all you're going to do - seems like you were bored and just felt like trying a bit of baiting (not that any xenophobic or racist comments have actually been made on this thread...)

Also, what are these "facts" that you are talking about? Normally projections that span 50 years into the future aren't referred to as facts. The normal parlance is "guesses".

    Classic hamish exit strategy.

Translates to : 'I have been made to look a fool (again). I will now slope off to find some other useless piece of information about why house prices are rocketing'

No Devon, not everyone else. Don't include me in your nasty gang.

But you are close. Certainly a large proportion of the population jumps onto the 'blame the immigrant' bandwagon, you included. It's always been like this through history. Whenever the economy is stuttering there's always has been a kneejerk reaction to blame the immigrant.

Kudos to Hamish for continuing to bring an alternative view.
