Within five years from now, public sector net debt would rise by £18bn, the equivalent of 5p on the basic rate of income tax, the research shows.
Now drop the straw men lads, and debate the data.,
Why is net debt increasing by £18bn equated to a 5p increase in income tax? It's a strange point for a supporter of economic stimuli to highlight. The whole point of debt increasing is that we haven't paid for it.
On the subject of the report, I expect I can find an article or two from migration watch which says that migration is a bad thing.0 -
These figures are from Migration Matters which is a pro immigration group - hardly conclusive evidence.
I guess the report from Parliament is a good one for you to ignore.0 -
And who has calculated the cost to the working man in reduced living wages due to over capacitance in the unskilled Labour Market.
Why not correlate a graph between the wage of a unskilled worker and immigration.
Has wages kept pace with inflation.
Do both graphs show a constancy.
Or do they deserve to never own property or never earn a living wage.Be happy...;)0 -

firstly this is a newspaper article
the quote for the OBR was about long term lifetime benefit;
the quote for 5 years was unattributed.0 -
THE ONLY reason Hamish likes high immigration is because he thinks it will cause house prices to rise.
That's it.
Forget about all his other points and his fancy data.
HPI is his only concern.
100% guaranteed.0 -
If people with spare rooms in private property were forced to rent them out to new migrants under Emergency housing Legislation still in place from WW2.
They would soon change their minds.
Like all liberals, they live as far as possible from the multicultural society.Be happy...;)0 -
The numbers don't make sense.
So, £3.6bn each year or 0.225 % of GDP, yet the report says:Within five years from now, public sector net debt would rise by £18bn
Huh?the UK's net public sector debt would rise from 74 per cent of GDP to 187 per cent within the next 50 years
Also, the comparison between the stock of debt (£18bn added over five years) compared to a flow of a single year's increase in income tax to 'pay' for it is bizarre and wrongheaded.
Pro-immigration groups aren't helping their cause by making up numbers like this."The state is the great fiction by which everybody seeks to live at the expense of everybody else." -- Frederic Bastiat, 1848.0 -
Where is the analysis of the OBR figures that the article references? All it claims is that halting "net migration" tomorrow would have the impact stated in the article. It doesn't say what net migration means.
I think most sensible people recognise that (I) net migration is not going to end and (II) we need immigration in order to fill shortages in certain professions and trades. Really the debate is not around whether or not there should be some level of net migration but whether we need hundreds of thousands of unskilled immigrants and unrestricted numbers coming into "language schools" to supposedly learn English. I don't think this article really advances that debate as it contains no detail and only a very high level generalisation.0 -
Fifty years ago there were people predicting that space travel would be a routine occurrence. In fact people would be living on the moon (that's right, 100% immigrants).
Cities in the sky would comfortably house the increased masses - that was another prediction.
Your typical computer would still be the size of a small wardrobe of course.
So why should I believe this report.
50 year predictions should take into account advances in automation and genetics. Sadly Hamish doesn't really understand technology - just bricks n mortar.0 -
I bet he wishes he hadn't posted a link to such a shyhyte report now.
Of course at the time, he got over excited and couldn't wait to do the pigeon dance - puffing out his chest victoriously.
Don't think I will be needing to write out that £137,000 cheque anytime soon.0
