Yea and it's fine to let the state make the pay up to a rate they can live on with housing benefit etc.0 -

That said , what is the answer?, do we continue to subsides sections of society, because in all honesty many cannot survive without benefits such as tax credits even though they may work 50hrs+ a week on NMW.The answer would to bring down the cost of living but that won't happen.Until the Government let the housing market fall back to an affordable level rents etc will remain the biggest burden on a large section of society.
.
We could make a start on reducing the cost of living by not artificially increasing energy prices through the imposition of absurd 'green' taxes. Home heating and transport costs impact hugely on the living standards of the low paid
We should also take the low paid out of tax altogether.
If you pick my pocket to the tune of £1,000 to give to the poor, the poor don't get that £1,000. They get the remainder of what is left once the pickpocket and his accomplices have kept a slice for themselves.0 -

What would be your ans for housing costs where I am a 2 bed house rents for £800 a month and NMW would be less than £1000 a month.0 -
yes but at least France knows how to relax instead of the relentless pace of life forced on people here.A bit like France then, generous benefits, high minimum wage and a permanently unemployed underclass of about 10%, 3% more than here who are kept hidden in the dodgy suburbs?
I know Free market push to the bottom wage pushers will not like that but I think france can tell us a few things.
If we had bolangeries on every street corner, and loads of pattisserrie etc we would at least have more jobs.
a more relaxed atttitude would help in the recession. Why are we drving people when there isnt the need?
I wish we had something like the 21 hour work rule give or take as neccessary so the workless could work and the overworked could rest and there be a better work life balance for all, where working is a viable possibility.
we all get disabled one way or another so unavoidable and workers get chucked off jobs when FIFTY!!!!! so loss of pension earnings.#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

This is one of the biggest barriers to cutting housing benefit and tax credits. All the time people plough the vast majority of their earnings into keeping a roof over their heads we won't even begin to solve the huge benefits bill.0 -
Taxation is not theft but where everyone contributes to well being and provision of society.
Those who resent tax as theft are selfish and the nasty party ably caters to it's needs. I for one don't want to pay more tax than is needed but I would rather pay and see people on welfare, nhs etc.#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

The nasty party has not put rent controls on landlords, punished banks, stopped the relentless price rises eating up peoples budgets. This is NOT WEALTH creating.#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

What would happen in the south east if housing benefit was withdrawn I suspect many buisness would have to increase pay or close down as they would be unable to find staff.
Maybe. Or maybe they would start up again elsewhere and people would follow them, as happened when the industrial revolution dragged thousands off the land.
Either way, the situation we are in now is reducing society to a miserable level. Until our infantilisation of adults ceases and people who are perfectly capable stop looking to a surrogate parent for their answers then things won't get better. The state is not the answer - most often it is the problem.
And now, if you'll excuse me, I have some work to do (genuinely). There's a moral there, somewhere...0
