Those who resent tax as theft are selfish and the nasty party ably caters to it's needs. I for one don't want to pay more tax than is needed but I would rather pay and see people on welfare, nhs etc.

how would you punish banks?0 -
Move. And see above for the rest.
Have a look online for the areas of deprivation in the SE from North Kent to East Sussex. If they all moved out who would sweep the streets, fill the coffee cups at Costa for the affluent 2nd homeowners at weekends.
These areas rely on the holiday industry, service industry jobs, not high tech manufacturing or engineering. If the low paid moved who would do the menial low paid work thats needed?.......Where is everyone going to move too? and what jobs will be there for them to do and contribute to Society..
Bit of a ridiculous post Mr Badger, thought you were better than that.People should stand on their own two feet but give them the chances and the tools to do it.
Where are these apprenticeships we were told by the Government would be up and running?. Our local college has stopped the carpentry course because they can't afford to buy any materials. Is this typical?, yes it probably is.0 -
Maybe. Or maybe they would start up again elsewhere and people would follow them, as happened when the industrial revolution dragged thousands off the land.
Either way, the situation we are in now is reducing society to a miserable level. Until our infantilisation of adults ceases and people who are perfectly capable stop looking to a surrogate parent for their answers then things won't get better. The state is not the answer - most often it is the problem.
And now, if you'll excuse me, I have some work to do (genuinely). There's a moral there, somewhere...
But if the customers are in a certain area what will the effect of moving the buisness. Should you be paying the same price for your burger or coffee in London and the South East as you do in the North East or should your price reflect the real costs of those areas.0 -
Precisely. And as the NMW goes up, so the chance of the business remaining viable goes down - particularly the new start-ups which the economy so badly needs.
Then the starts ups aren't viable or they should move to areas where they can pay a living wage if their business model would allow.
A lot of these businesses aren't start ups though they are large corporates."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

surely no-one under 40 would notice?0 -

True, but all the boomers would notice, and, in disgust, they would withdraw their huge savings and move their high quality mortgages to socially useful credit unions whose names were spelled correctly, thus leaving the evil bankers with unprofitable loan books with huge capital requirements. In a twist that the grammatically lazy would term "ironic", the banks will have to borrow millions from Wonga.com just to pay their bonuses and then end up having to pay out all their future income in interest and fee payments.0 -
Even allowing that some of the class warriors on here are the most moronic on the planet, it's still simply astounding there are some stupid enough to think increasing the NMW is an answer to anything.
Quite astounding.
I think Generali, our resident Aussie Tory economist banker, supported that proposition a few weeks ago, ASTOUNDING that we should expect business to pay a living wage instead of top ups from the taxpayer

Yes, my memory serves me right

The more I see how the Aussie economy works the more I think that increasing the minimum wage and cutting in work benefits is the way to go. People should pay their own way if they can and let's face it in normal times the vast majority of us are thankfully able to do so.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is.
