Taxation is not theft but where everyone contributes to well being and provision of society.
Those who resent tax as theft are selfish and the nasty party ably caters to it's needs. I for one don't want to pay more tax than is needed but I would rather pay and see people on welfare, nhs etc.

Tax isn't binary. It isn't "pay tax" or "not pay tax", it's a question of how much tax.

Someone who pays, say, 30 % or 40% of his income is not necessarily selfish is he doesn't want to pay 50% instead, I reckon.

Nor is any significant chunk of the taxpaying population saying that it doesn't want to pay for welfare and the NHS.

What a fair few people do think (and I'm one of them) is that it should never be the case that people are better off on benefits than they are working, or that the state should be paying for people to have more bedrooms than they need.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

How about having a big emmergency fund set aside, plus insurance to help one
through illness / accidents? It's what I did. It's what millions of us do.

This whole entitlment mindset is what's gone so wrong with Brtiain since
    Labour.

Back at the beginning of January I had a bone removed from my hand after having 5 different types of scan and x-rays.The consensus from Guys Hospital was that the bone was fractured. They decided to take the bone out.I claimed on my insurance (1st time in 15 years) and they decided they would pay out because it could not be proved that the fracture happend by accident and not wear and tear.

No guarantee the insurance companies will pay out even if you do have cover. I did exactly what you suggested but no doubt you would critisize me if I had put the premiums away each month as a slush fund instead of taking out insurance cover and then run out of money.

    No win situation;)
