Valli, seed potatoes break up the soil for you so do some of the hard work. Chitting isn't essential, it just gives them a bit of a head start. My advice would be to go to your £1 shop or wilkos and get something nice/early like Charlottes (look for first or second earlies), and very roughly work on one potato per square foot. Try not to buy ones that have sprouted and gone spindley in the pack as they tend to snap off in the soil. Put them in some egg boxes on a window ledge for now to give them a chance to sprout/chit whilst you wait for the soil to warm up a little. I will be planting mine next weekend if the soil is dry enough by then. HTH. ETA you can plant the ones from your kitchen bag but you risk infecting your soil so I never have. The odd one sprouts itself on the compost heap and makes perfectly edible results though.

Lots done outside, clean washing sorted inside, DW/WM/Roast dinner done inside. School bags sorted, just need to check shoes.

I even mopped the kitchen floor which is now filthy again. One of those pointless/thankless tasks.

It's been a really busy week but I've caught up today.
Washing put away. Kitchen sides done and floor swept.
    Living room tidied and dusted.
    Bathroom S&Sed

Had a snooze this afternoon as I didn't sleep well last night.

Had a lovely day in town yesterday with DD. Not often when there is just the two of us.

Looks like Im needing a new phone so shall investigate that.

Hugs spoons and sticks where needed.

    Thanks Hex.

I have dug the soil over (as I said) and removed some couch grass roots (ugh!) so I'm hoping the frost predicted for tonight will break up the sods a bit more. I have half-a-dalek full of (mostly) well rotted HM compost (along with a bit of sawdust which hasn't gone in yet, because DD emptied a gerbil cage into the wrong bin) - shall I work that in, too?

    Hi all,
Kiddies in their beds, for hopefully a good night, as they would be worn out. We did carboot trip this morning, purchased a cucumber. DS was disappointed but it was all baby stuff. Still they had an icecream, a turn on the merry go round and bouncy castle. And we've been out in the garden. Paddling pool to paddle and wash wellies off and chalking pics everywhere. And watered our seedlings.

So, you think they'll sleep tonight?

Bossymoo I think your day sounds like a recipe for tiring out little ones. Mine are a tad older than yours but I have tired them out watching DD2 and DD3 play end of season matches at football. The yellow thing in the sky was bright and we all feel a lot better for it. My two are in bed now but only just! I need to get a routine back and wind bedtime back to 7.45 ish!

Not looking foward to going back to work tomorrow for reasons's I can't disclose. School holidays are always so hard when you don't work in eduction.
