Now I just have to deal with paypal.

You won't get very far with Paypal unfortunately. As soon as I smelled a rat with the most recent codes I opened a dispute and escalated to a claim, and the dispute was closed promptly. I was sent the following this morning:

    Thank you for contacting PayPal.

Below I have outlined PayPal's protection policies. Please pay mind to the
second to last paragraph that will explain why the dispute was closed. We
apologize for any inconvenience this issue may be causing you.

Security and Protection are our top priorities, this means providing our
customers with a safe and secure way to purchase online with confidence. We
offer protection to our buyers in the different forms below:

    · PayPal's Buyer Complaint Policy is our best efforts program to
reimburse buyers for losses only to the extent we are able to recover the
funds from sellers. The PayPal Buyer Complaint Policy only applies to items
purchased outside of eBay or eBay Express that were not delivered to the
    buyer.

    · PayPal Buyer Protection applies to items purchased on eBay using
PayPal. PayPal Buyer Protection also covers non-delivery of items and items
that are significantly not as described, when PayPal is used to pay for a
qualified eBay listing. The maximum coverage amount available will be
displayed to the buyer on the eBay listing in the Buy Safely section. The
buyer can click on "See eligibility" for the specific coverage details of
    the eBay listing.

    Note:

    · When a dispute is escalated to a claim, PayPal determines which
protection coverage applies and processes the claim accordingly

    · These programs only cover payments for tangible, physical goods. All
other payments, such as payments for intangibles, services, airline flight
tickets, or licenses and other access to digital content are not covered by
any Buyer Protection Program that we offer (but may be covered by
    Chargeback rights).

For further detailed information on PayPal's Protection Policies, please go
to the "Legal Agreements" link on any PayPal webpage and click "User
    Agreement".

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

    Sincerely,
    Ben

In other words, Abdul has our money and we can't get it back. I can't complain too much though, as I must have had about five vouchers from him in the past few months. One of them was a 200 GBP voucher for 21 GBP. Ah well, too much of a good thing. I wish I'd come across this forum a bit sooner.
  • Yeh I had exactly the same email from Paypal. £42 for a lesson learnt, but I will probably spend a few minutes on the phone to Paypal to see what can be done.

If I paid through Bank funding to paypal from my Natwest debit, what can I do? Can I approach Natwest and say it was fraud?

Also, if iTunes knows it is a fraudulent voucher and I have explained that to them, presumably I'm not going to get in trouble with them? They are just going to reset the balance to 0.00?
  • I have a fresh issue with Paypal now however. My account balance has gone into negative because I opened the dispute, and now Paypal is threatening to take the amount from my back-up source of funding, even though by bank account was debited on 30/08.

I have been using eBay and Paypal for a long time, but this is causing far more hassle than it is worth.

Meanwhile I have sent more emails to Mr Waheed, but he seems to have done a runner.
  • If i funded the account with a debit card, can Natwest help at all? Since it was basically a fraudulent payment....
  • I'm not sure about that. All I do know is that Paypal doesn't want to know, which is pretty poor if you ask me.

As you know, this thread also ran on the DVD Forums (someone even posted the DVDF discount code on here). The moderators over there have been in correspondance with the vendor and have this to report.

"I have now had a reply from the itunesvouchers.co.uk guy...

He changed supplier a week ago and it appears that the vouchers from this supplier are the ones that have been the cause of these issues. He has sent all of the offending vouchers to Apple himself and is currently trying to resolve the issue with vouchers from the old supplier.

I'm currently waiting for a response from Apple on this subject as well and I'll be keeping the links suspended until I am satisified that this is a limited problem."

    And in a separate post.

"Hold on for a bit - he's currently going through the affected vouchers and either replacing them with working ones or doing refunds. He has suspended all sales at the moment.

I imagine he has a pretty big backlog to go through."

Situation may not be as bleak as you all think. Out of interest, why have none of the board mods commented on this MSE thread?
  • Well Paypal, in reality, aren't obligated to do anything. Its a matter of decency however, as the money will still be in that guys account - and they won't even look into it.

I highly doubt I will hear anything more from that guy, or from anyone else, but thats life!

  • Another thing dawned on me last night - this chap owns and runs http://all-ebooks.co.uk/ an online book store - there's a possibility he could have access to cutomers card details quite easily through that... scary thought.

Well I'm £27 down, didn't even get a working voucher code through, I emailed him yesterday morning asking for a refund as there was no way I wanted my account to be disabled, but reading through the last page or so on here it looks like I'm not going to get it.

For months I've ignored these cheap vouchers, grr why did I succumb!!
